I ordered a package of Northern Lights seeds from Seedsman some time ago. I've never grown Northern Lights before, but I'm pretty sure the plants aren't supposed to look like this. Actually, I'm damn certain the plants aren't supposed to look like this. I grew two other strains at the same time, thankfully, (Mandala's Satori and Greenhouse's Arjan's Ultra Haze #1) and they both came out just fine. Initially I thought the disparity might have something to do with the fact that the so-called Northern Lights plants were started from seeds and the others were clones, but I took some clones from the "Northern Lights" plants and they shot up to about four feet tall in about four weeks, with their added height consisting of almost entirely stem. On the bright side, these plants were remarkably easy to clone, but unfortunately I can't see myself doing that again in the future.
This sucks because I was really looking forward to having some nice northern lights to smoke and instead it looks like I have the progeny of Mexican brickweed bag seeds. I'm not sure what's up with Seedsman, but they'd better get their shit together if this is what passes for Northern Lights with them. Not that I'd ever order from them again anyway. This is my first bad packet of seeds, and the seeds came in a nice sealed Seedsman-branded packet, so I'm going to assume the guys who sold me the seeds aren't the ones at fault.
The first picture is of two of my "Northern Lights" plants. The other is a closeup of the buds on my best plant from this packet of seeds. Keep in mind, these plants were left in the dark for a week before harvesting, so if they look all dried out and sick, that's why. I just didn't get around to taking pictures until the last minute. The thing to focus on is the extremely high stem to leaf ratio and the feathery buds - not something I think should be expected from Northern Lights. Also, these are taken with about 9 weeks of flowering.
