Seeds Sprouting

So I just planted my two cracked beans in the soil yestarday night (7 pm). I come and check on them around 2 pm today and one of the seeds appeared to be breaking through the surface. From what I understand the sprouts are supposed to break the surface so I put a slight(very slight) amount of soil on top just in case. Is the casing of the seed supposed to break the surface? Do you think it could have possibly broke the surface that quick? The seeds germed in 24 hours and seem to be some pretty fast growers. The seed bank I purchused them from said the have a very vigorous veg and flower. Thanks guys!

They'll be fine let them do there thing and dont play with them. If you love them too much you may hurt em.

Let me just explain what you did. You helped the seed to germinate by cracking them using whatever method you used. You then did what nature meant for the seed by putting it into nutritious soil. You then did the correct thing in leaving it to do what it is designed to do. The seed did what it as designed to do, by growing up out of the soil so that it can develop leaves and begin to photosynthesise. You then decided to pour a load more earth on top of it. Why did you do this? Nature does not go around waiting for the precise moment when a seedling breaks the surface of the earth, so that it can deposit more earth on top of it - so there is no reason for you to do it. I imagine the plant will survive, but you just made it's life harder for no reason that I can think of. :peace:

Hahaha, thank you for you answers fella's. The reason I put more cocofiber on top was due to how fast it came up. The amount I put on top was not even noticable( I can still see the seed through the dirt. But thanks again for the advice, you live and you learn.

Back to my main question which I believe was answered, should the seed casing actually pop through the soil surface. Meaning does the seed pop through the soil and is it important to have some good roots before this happens? My concerns are that I planted these when the root was just barely poking through the crack of the seed. I couldn't imagine the seed roots being more then a centimeter or two long. Is this long enough for the seed to pop through and start receiving my 400 watt mh? My lights are 24 inches above my plants (not sure if thats really a factor).. Trying to keep these puppies short, dont want em stretching much if at all.

Seed casings will often fall off after breaking soil. Hell, some will stick on there for a while and make ya wanna help it along by pulling it off. Let it go and nature will take its course.

awesome, man I can assure you I dont want to mess with my plants if I dont have to, Hell if the things wanna grow by themselves I will let em. Just trying to make sure they cant pre-maturely pop through the soil. I didnt plant em deep (maybe a pinky fingertip) and the roots were very small. I will let em go and see how they do. Thanks again guys for the help.
