Yeah, building the set up today. Start small, prolly 4 or 5 23w or 27w whatever they are, gonna plant maybe 4 or 5 of those seeds. Which ones should I use? The ones with longer or shorter roots? Does it matter really?

The roots look pretty long and are white. They've been in a ziplock with wet paper towel for 3 days. The seeds were old.
They look fine. Don't let the fact that the seeds are old discourage you. I'm flowering a plant right now that I grew from 7 year old bag seed. My plant is 4' tall now.

Nice! I wasn't sure if that mattered, mine are prolly a couple years old. Ran to WalMart to get some lights, couldn't find a Y adapter so I can use 2 bulbs in the one reflector but will pick that up soon. Got some Miracle Grow Organic (the one with the tomatoes on the bag) and will transplant to fox farm soil in a couple weeks. I'm gonna go work on putting a couple speaker boxes together for my box and I'll have to get some fans and mylar going soon.

I have read over and over again that it is no good to use seeds that have "oversprouted" ie the tails are like 2inches long?

Im really interested to know FACTUALLY, with eveidence, just how the larger ones in your pics are doing so far?

I ask, because i had 4 seeds, after 3 days of germinating using the paper towel method, 2 were long and two were just poking through the shell, but decided to plant them together anyway! Interestingly, the larger of the 2 longer sprouts died instantly and never showed through the soil, and the smaller of the bigger sprouts didnt last much longer, however the two smaller seeds thrived! one of which is now lovely 2 ft tall beauty!

im wondering if there is summit to this "shoot length" being too long carry-on or just an unhappy coincidence that the larger two died and shorter ones made it?

all conditions were identical btw...strain, lighting, temp, medium type, watering schedule etc etc etc etc between the 4 seeds i had, so im struggling to think of anything else it could have been?

anyways, hope your lil seedlings are rocking dude!

All the breast and happy growing

That's interesting. Maybe I'll do half long ones and half shorter ones and see what happens. This is also my first go at this so I may kill them from pulling a noob move anyway. So I changed up to MG Violet Mix and some MG Perlite until i can get good stuff (hopefully FF)

I don't like this light reflector, it's a little too big, but got it because need something today to put these babies under. WalMart was sold out of the smaller ones. I'll prolly go to Home Depot tomorrow and hopefully find something good. Anyone have recommendation for something from HD or Lowes or somewhere like that? The dimensions on the box are approx 34 x 34 x 10.5

I have (2) 20W and (2) 26W 6500K. Is that about right for 4 plants? I'll get the 2700Ks in a couple weeks.

I know I still need mylar, intake & exhaust, more lights, all coming very soon. Any suggestions welcomed thx!

When getting mylar, just buy the wrapping paper with the reflective back to save money. It's the same exact thing. And interms of ventilation I would buy 1 120 mm computer fan to exhaust and make that hole in picture 2 a passive intake. In terms of CFL'slights, I reccommend using 2 power strips full of lights (6 CFL's total) and make 4 of the bulbs 2700k spectrum and two of them 5500-6500k spectrum
