Sand is not a good choice because it is too fine to use as a medium for MJ. You can use sand to cut your soil but your better off with something larger in grain size which will not only help with runoff but also making sure there is adequate oxygen at the root zone. If you DWC outside you will probably need a chiller or to bury your res pretty deep and you need to absolutely make sure your res is light proof. It's my understanding that if your wanting to do hydro outside a good technique is NFT if your able to keep the root zone cool. Keep us posted if you do hydro outdoors cause we want to see them monsters! Good luck and happy growing.

Im sorry but im not understanding about sand being to fine ,

perlite is fine also right ?

If i fill a hole up with sand its not going to wash away anywhere right ? so could i not just put a netpot with hydroton in it to help hold it in place ?

Im sorry , im just trying to get a better understanding about all this

I threw that burnt one away and started 2 new ones

So far they seem to be doing ok , the roots are barley coming out the net pot

Their in just little homemade dwc containers , 1 is a coffee can ( got the idea from slim , thanks my man , ) and the other is in a cashew nut container

I know i wont be able to grow big in those but its just something for me to practice with ,

Im definitely gonna try out hempy using 100% perlight

The power went out last night for a few hours and i got a little worried that they could drown since the air pump was out which made me decide to try out hempy

How long do you think plants could survive in dwc before they drown if power goes out ?

:dunce: duhh lol

idk why i didn't think about that lol
It's a really simple solution to a very stressful problem.. so it normally gets overlooked.

The most efficient way to handle a power outtage is some kind of small generator for your airpump.. or even better yet a battery back up on your airpump.. I wonder if they have those..

I found these on ebay , dont know how good they be though , power wise i mean , how strong they might be

Hey ,

once my roots get long enough do i still need to fill up to the bottom of my net pots or can i put less in then ?

It's personal preference really.. if you think they need more air, lower the water level.

I like to keep it up under the net pot, because there's a lot of roots grown out of the rockwool and into the hydroton that are getting plenty of air.

Also those battery powered air pumps would be great for backup power outtage situations.. maybe even for moving.. although all that water could be too heavy to transport.

yea it would be ,

But i dont planing on moving much , just from my veg cab to flower cab and those little containers dont weigh anything

But i would not want to be moving a bunch of 5 or 10 gal buckets of em though lol

Can any of you tell me what to do to treat this rust looking color on my leaves ?

This is the first for me on dealing with this damn problem lol shit is making me want to go back to soil ugh

Iv been doing the lucas formula and only using maxibloom 1/2 strength

Ph is 5.5

it does go up to around 6.3 every night since my res is so small but i adjust it back down first thing

i have had a few leafs like this happen to me and still to this day i don't know why as it happened around the time yours is and it never really affected the plant in any way, as long as your new growth is lovely and green you shoulkd be sound mate and i would try and aim for 5.8 ph 5.5 is recommended but I'm passing on what i do :)
