I feel ya
I'm just trying to get the best I can get, I'm very new to growing

Partially The reason i want to run the 1k is I have a tent in my room
It is very cold where I am
And I'm using that kinda to keep the plants at a better temp
Without running my heater

If I put them under my t5
Temps in the room are around 55°

With the tent running my room goes to about 65-68

You should be shooting for 72-76, and 55 good luck :s and a huge heads up since your in a tent and you mentioned it being cold, the more the temp varies from light on to light off the more your plants will stretch, not good in a small space. I also run out of a very cold basement and running 24/0 solves this problem for me.

Running 24 may also cause stretching (I do it too)

You may want to invest in a efficient portable heater. They make them pretty safe now. Good luck and happy growing. Respect

You might be able to save a bit of electricity by using heating pads & cfl's instead of that 1kw bulb. Regardles, its only gonna be a few weeks before you gotta turn that mh back on.

Are you running mh or hps? Wonder why your getting stretching it don't think it's from the 24/0 I am now using hps for veg 24/0 and they are bushy and low.

Nice. Just a theory then I guess... I use cfl\fluoros and natural light for veg right now... My growing is limited. I'm growing in the top half of a friends closet... I'm on probation :(

The less light hours they receive, the more they stretch, when lights shut off, your plant will stretch towards the lights untill they come back on.

Spectrum plays a big part too. 2000k-3000k will have longer nodes then 5000-6700k.

I guess my theory is that not giving the plants a chance to "rest" causes stretching. I've seen members mention it so it may be something worth checking out, or it could be speculation... Take it with a grain of salt

I like to have a little variation with light spectrum. It's easy to do with cfls since you have multiple bulbs.

Odd. If you happen to stumble on that thread or member please tag me. What's your theory though? Have you tried a side by side? I cant see a 24hr plant stretching more then 18/6 but I'd love to hear the reasoning on your theory.

No I haven't. Given my circumstance, my indoor growing has been extremely limited for the past 5-6years...
I believe I seen a mod mention it earlier. Let me see if I can track down who it was. Maybe they can shed some light...

Edit: I'll just pop a new thread.

Update the seedlings are doing great under the 1k mh
For those sayin they'll burn and die
it's too much light for seedlings
And I should do research

i looked and looked and couldn't get a straight up answer
Just people telling me that it isn't gonna work when they have no idea
On more than 1 post and forum

So if anyone wants to put seedlings under a 1k MH
It'll work just fine keep the soil moist and the temps in check

10 of 11 have sprouted up and are doing well

Glad you found the results you were looking for... my whole reason for posting was not that it wouldn't work, but that it is a waste of electricity. obviously that's not a cocern. Again, I'm glad your grow is well. Grow on

Get a paper towel, wet it,
Put seeds in the wet towel, make sure it stays wet, put it in a warm place, come back day later and theyll be open...

Simplicity my boy, simplicity
