Yes and many do.
I prefer to go 20/4 and give them some "rest"......Plenty of things go on during a lights out period in the plant.

this is my method;

*leave seedling in cup of water for 24hrs.

*put seeding into growing medium

*leave in warm dark place untill sprout(48hrs)

*put under 24hrs of light

*18/6 light schedule for veg

I usually start my seedlings under 24 hours of light for the first couple of weeks then i choose to continue 24_0 or 20_4 or 18_6.

I always veg for 24 hours. If I was doing more than 600 watts of HID for veg I would probably do 20/4 to save a bit of energy/costs. With 20-24 hours you really do get nice compact growth though, other factors permitting. Less lighting = more stretch, less growth early on.
