If perlite is not an option then, get some small gravel(rocks) and sanitize them by heating them. Wash them off and mix with your soil. The goal is to keep the dirt from compacting and forcing the oxygen out of the root system. To those that take exception to the fine gravel, this was a common practice long before perlite and vermiculite.
I see.. i did add a bit of gravel (its what i could find) and charcoal to the mix when i planted the sprout in..

I'd ditch that homemade rig you got going and either grow in soil or in hydro
i would like hydro as thru reading around hydro has the best growth rate, hence the reason to the homemade set up.. the soil and set up was kinda necessary as the proper hydro equipment is pretty rare.. and space is quite limited.. i chose to build this as its cheap, easy to get and fits my grow area well (i would love to have the proper equipment but this is what i have to work with living in a third world country :sad:)
