Feeding a seed crop. Yellow and dying leaves.
Hey there.
I'm not sure if I have nutrient issues so I don't have a picture just yet. This is more a general question than a problem.
This is the first large seed crop I have done.
Two F2 medical strain seed rescue from 10 year old seeds.
They are large plants in 15 gallon pots indoors. Stalks maybe two inches in diameter. I admit they have had to survive more than being lovingly grown out. This is a new house, new State and it was important to rescue these old genetics as soon as possible but these plants are over grown a bit.
Soil mix is organic soil store mix augmented with lovingly crafted small batch compost.
Liquid feeding is done with guinea pig manure tea bubbled with 4-4-4 organic fertilizer, a little fish emulation and a dash of this and that.
It's unsettling that some leaves are going yellow and dying although it could be natural.
It looks like it's shedding fan leaves. In my mind this could be normal as the plant is nearing the end of it's life-cycle but as a "bud grower" mostly it's unsettling to see.
Their clime is arid and I have not done much trimming of the plants so there is a lot of growth. A lot of leaves.
I suspect there are two or three weeks left before the seeds are ready. They are ripening just fine.
I am however seeing nutrients being sucked out of some fan leaves under the brightest area of the light (HPS). They are turning light green then to yellow and then dead falling from the plants.
Perhaps this is okay and normal given the plant must be focused on reproduction. It's a lot of seeds.
Each plant is drinking 1.5 to 2.0 gallons of water a day.
Do you think I am needing to feed more nitrogen?
Are there some nutrients that I should have or should provide now at this late stage?
Any suggestions on feeding for seed crop?
There is always something to learn.
Thanks
