Someone told me today that seeds over six months old are a lot less likely to germinate. Is this true?

I'm a Newbie to MJ growing, but in my experiance with seeds it matters how it was stored if its going to germinate or not. The plants I'm growing right now all germinated with the papertowl method, and they were stored for over a year in wrapped celephane plastic. Their doing fine.
-- AND on a side note. I'm also growing some tomato plants that I had stored for 12 years in an airtight container, and pretty much 80% of the tom seeds germinated.

I have seeds over a year old that I just germinated using the papertowel method. Worked for me, I dont really know if there is a certain amount of time, throw them in a paper towel and see what happens.

Germinating is nature's process to start the plant growing by giving it signals to release chemicals internally to sprout.
That's the short, non-scientific explanation.
If the seed doesn't germinate, the plant doesn't grow!
no, they're good for years if you keep them refrigerated and dry.

Side note: I am growing an unknown bagseed strain from some seeds my wife found in some old boxes of hers from her hippie days during the late 70's.
Two of 5 seeds germinated and grew into females that are in flower now. They're probably just some run of the mill Mexican brown weed that used to be abundant back then.
Waiting to see.
I keep my current seed bankin the freezer in airtight containers with moisture absorption packets with them.

you can get a good ten years out of seeds if stored well. i use glass vials placed in another sealed container with silica beads to absorb excess moisture kept in the refrigerator.

wile watching the history channel they found seeds in the pirmads that were over 1000 years old the germated. it has to do with how they are stored weather or not they will germanate. when i grow bag seed they are over 2 or 3 years old yet they still grow. the number that germanate is low but most do germ
you proble want to germanate them in a paper towel. befor planting them. gl may you be cursed with many buds.

i sometimes use a superthrive or kelp extract soak which contain rooting hormones and b vitamins which can help stubborn older seeds pop.
