sediment filter

hey all, im looking for a sediment filter that can be hooked up to a spigot and filter out the larger sediment from my water supply before entering my RO setups. I use the stealthRO systems and although they have sediment and carbon filters, the sediment filters are filthy after just a few weeks. I have been replacing em but at over 10 bucks a pop i want to find a better solution. Itd just be nice to have one large sediment filter so the other smaller sediment filters of each RO system arent needing to be changed every few weeks.

cheers

yeah, pretty much a single large sediment filter that can be hooked up to my water supply so that the water going to my three RO systems doesnt clog and dirty their individual sediment filters. wanting to replace just one filter every 3-4 weeks instead of three

what you want is the hydro logic prefilter that is matched for that r/o filter. I think it is called the small boy. I have used hydro logic r/o filters for a while and always use a prefilter. i'm running the big boy and the evolution 1000 right now.

since i have three, shouldnt i get the large one you have to allow enough water flow to supply all at the same time? i appreciate the response.

also, how often do you replace the prefilter and carbon filter?

you need a lot go head pressure for the larger units to work properly. i had to bring a dedicated 1" line from my cistern tank just to get enough for my big boy. i'm really not sure if i could divide the outlet on it to 3 smaller units. best bet would be to call them and ask before you do buy a bigger pre filter. i know you can get the fitting to make a manifold but i don't know what the possible issues might be putting that much head pressure through your smaller r/o filters.

have you thought about just getting one big r/o filter? it would be a lot easier to build a manifold after that.

i change the cartridges on my pre-filter and my r/o filter every year. they say you should do it more often i think but i check the ppm on my water and it is fine. the annual thing is for maintenance really. i also have the upgraded kdf filter. not sure if they sell that for the smaller units.

im already thinking i should have just gotten one larger system. live and learn i suppose. if i cant use a larger prefilter with them ill most likely try and trade them in for the evolution

i just shot them a message about the situation.

cheers

my pleasure. let me know what they say when they get back to you. if you don't hear from them by the end of the day tomorrow let me know and i'll contact a friend and find out.

dude said that the tall boy will do the job for me and make the stealths' filters last 3x longer. now just gotta see what he suggests i use for a fitting to get the water fed into each of the three systems while maintaining equal pressure. i appreciate you helpin out, i had seen the small, tall and big boy in their product line but thought they were standalone units. makes sense that they have prefilters to extend the life of the RO prefilters.

glad it worked out for you man.

i would think they probably have some kind of manifold system. or maybe you have to make one out of T's and elbows. i don't know if the head pressure would be an issue for your machine. i just thought you should ask first.

hope all works out for ya. keep em' frosty!!!

been trimming like a madman last few days. no better feeling than hanging the last trimmed bud to dry and gazing over the handywork ;)
