secret to "sticky" bud

So I grew for the first time last year using several Greenpoint strains, supposedly famous for producing nice resin-soaked sticky bud.

Grew organically in the ground, had good results come October (I was able to let everything finish properly, last plants were harvested the week of Halloween), was careful to dry and cure properly, bud looks decent, nice effect, and terps smell nice (if I crack a jar for a minute my wife can smell it downstairs!), but none if it has that nice "sticky" quality we all love. Wondering about why and curious to hear other's experiences with this.

One thing I noticed was the odor was strongest the last couple weeks of September, but then seemed to back off slightly in October. I was expecting the scent to keep intensifying until the end. Maybe because of the cooler temps and lower humidity in October?

I'm also wondering if I should've watered more during flower. We didn't have a lot of rain, I generally aimed to give them the equivalent of about 1" of rainfall per week. I watered once per week (twice if it was hot) usually, roughly 7-8 gallons per plant. Everything was well mulched to keep the soil moist. But now I wonder if maybe they need extra water during flower and whether more water during flower, especially toward the end, would have produced more resin and stickier bud.

Thoughts?

'Sticky' appearing bud, in my experience, has primarily been a function of genetics.

That's been my impression but I thought the Greenpoint genetics were famous for resinous bud. Mine is coated with trichs, just when you take a bud in your fingers and squeeze it gently it doesn't leave that sticky residue on your fingers.

No offense but I think they are more known for cheap seeds

Make sure they haven't dried out too much, that will kill the smell, cure and make them less sticky

pheno hunting can be a real pain

Really? The reviews from people online seem overwhelmingly positive. I know in my case the seeds were shipped fast, almost all of them germinated, and the plants were vigorous. But I can't compare since that's all I've grown.

Smell seems good--maybe I overdried some of them before jarring, but in the jars they were generally around 65% r.h. although a few jars dropped below 60.

So it's unusual to find a sticky pheno?

Not hard but going to need more then a few seeds to find

I see some people popping 50 to 100 of the same seed to find that 1 keeper ,I also seen people find a keeper with 1 to 5 seeds it's all on luck when popping seeds just keep on trying and growing till you find something you want to grow forever I found mine its chemdog

Gorilla Glue, from most reports, and my own experience, lives up to it’s name.
I found it easy to grow, and pest- cold- and mold-resistant. I’m sure the pheno was a good one as I got it cloned from a friend who grows “professionally”, but most online reports are similar.
Wish I would have cloned a mother for this year. It basically grew itself.

What do you mean? Every seed I grow ends up as sticky weed. It's not from some pheno hunt. It's from growing healthy plants from start to finish and letting the plants mature completely.

If you have to pop 50-100 seeds to find a keeper then those genetics suck.

All weed I grow Is sticky I'm talking about keepers something so special that you would want to grow forever not going to find that with 1 seed if you do dam that's crazy lucky

Too many "breeders" have convinced people that their expensive polyhybrid seeds with a dozen phenotypes requiring extensive pheno hunting is a perfectly acceptable practice. That isn't breeding, it's pollen chucking, and it's perfectly fine (and very fun if you do it at home), but there is a massive gulf between pollen chucking and actual cannabis breeding for specific traits and stability. So yes, certain breeders will have a vastly more uniform and reliable product than others.

if you can crumble it with ya fingers its over dried.

Depends on the strain and pheno. Some have sticky resin and some have dry sandy resin, great for hash.

Some phenos have greasy resin, some have sandy. The greasy stuff smells stronger and is more sticky ime
