Friend uses dr100 with stanley blower on top to extract heat and leaves 1 vent open on the bottom and the temps stay nice as long as the temp in the room doesnt get too high. He uses a 400w cmh now but said hes thinking about going with a 600w hps soon.
Its also not 7'8" tall, more like 6'.

Put a 6" collar on the intake side and put some ducting over the collar. The Stanley sits on its side on the top of the tent and sucks all the air out. I will see if he will let me take a pic if you want to see.

in my dr100 i have a 430 cfm 6in inline Bright Grow fan hooked up to a carbon filter i got from htgsupply.com in a combo pack. its a little loud but with a simple fan controller the noise can be reduced. get an air cooled hood for the 400w. i have a 600w in mine but honestly could bump to a 1000w. keep doin some research its cheaper to buy once and it be quality rather then buying on impulse and having to modify.

i have the dark room 80 that i have a 400w in with no aircooled hood. i have a 4 inch exhaust fan and a 4 inch inline fan with fresh air. both keep temps at 73

yeah...like i said its a little loud so it might be overkill. according to "experts" you need fresh air exchange every 5 min so the dr100 needs a cfm of 80. so 430 is plently. id go with a 6 in vortex thats like 190 or 210 cfm something like that

I have a DR120 which is approx 4' x 4' by 6.5' high. I have a 435 cfm vortex that pulls air through a large carbon filter and exhausts into room. I have a fan controller with variable speed so I can keep the fan on low. If I were to allow the 435 cfm fan to run full speed, the carbon filter couldn't do it's job, the room would smell and the fan would be too loud. I have one lower vent open, with a 6" radial vent installed to cut out light entering the tent. The 600w hps is air cooled with a 160 cfm fan that pulls air from outside of tent, through light hood and exhausts into room outside of tent. My room stays at about 77 with AC set for 75. The tent is about 82 in 'day' and 74 at 'night'.

hey Serapis mad respect for you, your grows are pretty sweet....but you say the carbon filter couldnt do its job..?? why so. i dont have any smell in my room with my 435 fan goin with the scrubber. i only smell the portable heater that is running. dont get me wrong im not advocating having it running all the time ( i actually really want that fan controller the noise is damn loud) but what about it makes the filter useless...

Hey man, I'm sorry I didn't take the time to read the entire thread, but I thought I'd just let you know that i have a DR100 that I'm currently growing in and I am using a 170cfm fan attached to a similar looking filter (can filter 2600). I know you don't know me from Adam, but I just wanted to give you my honest two cents before I hop off of here for tonight. Don't buy that thing.

Reason #1 - 6" fan rated @ 500 cfm is NOT going to be whisper quite and that's just crap. Anyone here with anything more then a 100cfm fan will tell you that.

Reason #2 - Some brand name products aren't always such a rip off. Even if it is one of the lesser and more affordable brand out there (like Growbright, Sunleaves, Digital Greenhouse) you do still get what you pay for. At least look for a warranty.

Reason #3 - They can't even get the code on their page correct, it's all broken, if they can't even get that right then jeez, seriously?

i think he's saying that the air gets sucked through too fast for it all to completely pass effectively over the carbon and get scrubbed well...

If your airflow is too fast for your scrubber, odor atoms can be pulled through the fan and never attach to any of the carbon. Anytime you hear of a negative pressure tent or grow room that smells like a grow area, it is usually because the fan is moving too much air through the filter at once. I learned this on my first night with a Jardin in my house. After installing a controller and slowing that fan down, not only can I barely hear it now, I can't smell anything from inside the tent.
