second time around

so i said i would get up some pics on my next check up and so i did.

here are 3 pics
one of the whole group and 2 split shots.

they are all in various stages of completion. some jars have no growth on opposite side of what you see in pictures but most have growth on all four sides. i would say, 4-6 jars have no growth on the opposite side of what you all can see and the rest are good.

everything is clean and contamination free.

my jury is still out on how harmful the orange stains are as i seem to have some of it. of course i'll keep watching them but they seemed to have no affect last time on my first batch.

check my old posts, i have plenty of pics from the first go.

the recipe i followed says to but i have heard some people dont.

oh and you can see in the pics that i use alot of tape and fold the ends over so i have a tab to pull open in order to inoculate with needle after sterilization.

so it has been a few days now and i have another update. been having trouble keeping temps at appropriate levels and as i keep having to increase i see more growth.

temps above the mason/dixon line have begun there slow descent towards fall/winter.

anyhow, of the 21 jars, 7 Hawaiian , 7 Z strain and 7 F+ strain, 9 are complete.

well 7 are complete and 2 are damn close.

the other 12 are not far behind except for one that is struggling. it is still going but the amount of spores in that jar were minimal and it is having a hard time eating all the BRF.

so i have 2 pictures on of the 9 jars and one of the 12 jars.

and i have questions.

i can birth the cakes that are ready ad place them in terrarium to start fruiting.

OR
i can birth cakes that are ready and dunk 24hr and roll THEN place into fruiting chamber.

OR
i can wait till i see little mushrooms/primordia and THEN birth into fruiting chamber (no dunk/roll)

what seems the best...

i have been wondering the same thing. wait for pins or dunk and roll or just put them in once fully colonized?

anyone have a preferred method?

well no responses so i think i will do an experiment.

during my first grow i birthed them and placed directly into fruiting chamber.

i did get results. my other posts show pictures and shit.

i will try one of each method.

tomorrow i will birth one cake and place into terrrium.
i will also birth one to dunk 24hr and roll then place into terrarium.
another i will wait until i see pinning then birth.

i may do 3 of each since i have nine jars ready....then with those results i will decide on the other 12 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL(giddy like a little girlhehehehehehehehehehehehehe)

I think the best thing to do with shrooms is to wait till the jar is 100% white, then wait a week to birth so you can make sure the middle it colonized . Dunk then role in vermiculite and put into terrarium.

should i move those that are ready into light and cooler temps to induce the primordia in the jar or just leave them in dark and warm?

so i birthed 5 cakes sunday night and soaked them for 24.

rolled them in verm and placed them into terr.

have small 10gph air pump at bottom of tank to help offset co2 levels.

covered with plastic wrap, layered with wet perlite.

cut the bottoms out of foam salad bowls.

day one of fruiting.

i have to look at how i placed them and marked them, BUT, 2 cakes on right are pair and 2 cakes on left are a pair and the one in the middle is Hawaiian, the others are either Z strain or F strain.

will clarify later.

hey massbaster...hows everything looking? give us an update please.

ive got a question for you..what did you dunk you cake into? water obviously but in a bucket or what? and once soaked for 24hrs then roll into dry verm if i understand correctly.

anyway good luck and lets see some pics!:peace:

not exactly sure what is going on.

i have temps reduced by ~10 degrees if not more.

i fan as often as possible and have the air stone pumping 24/7.

i keep enough water in the perlite to submerge the air stone by 1/2 to 3/4 deep. just enough for it to bubble.

and i spray down the sides, on the glass, and i have yet to see any pinning.

been a few days now.

hmmmm,,...getting frustrated.

also just grew another male plant and possibly have my other one is male too...

no having much luck.

o and to answer your question, i used my 16 qt lobster pot that i used for sterilization.

a smaller pot would have been better as i did not have a plate the same diameter as the pot. so word of advice match the plate to just fit into the pot or pan.

the plate is to hold the mushrooms below the surface of the water as they tend to float BIG TIME.

then roll in vermiculite.

so back to my issue, the only thing i can think of is that the center of the cakes were not completely done even though i waited a good week after the jars were full.

if that is the case, then patience and time may be my best friends for now.

the cakes are still pretty white with the possibility of some slow cobweb mold forming. to to freshness of air i believe.

YouTube - Let's Grow mushrooms! pf tek part 3

this is the video i watched. at 6 minutes in he explains the dunk and roll that i did. check it out and ignore his explanation on the drilling of holes. fuck that. i dont think that is needed BUT I COULD BE WRONG.

just seems like over kill to me.
