Second Grow - Taking all advice - Willing to do something new

Whats going on guys.
Been a part of rollitup for a while, just never got into posting. I enjoy reading all the threads, which has lead to me learning way more then I could have ever expected. Anyway, on to the topic:

I just got word from a friend that he is going to allow me to use one of his rooms in his apartment for a grow. This will be my second grow. The first time around I went hydroponically, using a 5gal. bucket some hydroton, aerator.. basically a nice simple setup. Well, issues that occurred never allowed me to finish the grow but before I had to get rid of the plant I was pretty satisfied, except for the stunted growth which I am almost positive was due to my lighting situation.

This time around I'm looking to get all opinions on what type of grow I should start. I was very happy with hydroponics, and would like to stay in that ball park. I'm also interested in having a few more plants, lets say 4 or 6, instead of my original 1.

What I have to work with:

The room I have been supplied with is in the area of 10'L 10'W 10'H. Although I have such space, I'm not looking to do anything crazy on my second grow. (for all you guys getting ready to tell me I can grow alot more than that haha) I'm looking to keep the setup in a corner of the room, not to say it will be cramped, but I just dont want it taking up the entire place. As for funds, I havent decided what I'm going to limit myself to yet, but as always the less the better ;].

Before I start putting anything together I'd like to get all your professional opinons as to what type of setup, including lighting chemicals and cores, and also the strain of marijuana (looking for a decent yield, strong buds, but doesnt need to be any amazing type of weed) you would reccommend an amateur to grow.

Looking forward to hearing from as many people as possible. Like I said, I enjoy reading (especially when it comes to bud), so please take some time and give me your thoughts.

Thanks in advance,
Jorg

Growing in other people's homes is a bad idea. Tell dude it was a stoner moment and you've decided against it. Don't let anyone know you are growing. You'd be better off getting some female clones ready to be transplanted outdoors when spring comes.

Tell dude you will help him out if he want's to grow, but don't put your investment under someone else's control.

But anyway, bump this back up any advice would be appreciated.

Id say go with a DWC setup, theyre easy to set up and could be built with < $30. As for lighting you want about 3500-5000 lumens a plant.

I prefer to veg with CFLs cause theyre cheap, and since your only growing about 4-6 plants, for flowering I would suggest the 150w hps light from econolight. Its what I will be using come flowering time. :bigjoint:

As for strain I would say go indica since it is indoors and sativas require more lighting so maybe some white widow would be nice.

If your hands on just build yourself a nice little grow tent or if not just purchase one.

As for nutes I use Fox Farms Grow Big, Big Bud, and Tiger Bloom I like them and have heard nothing but good things about them.

And since you have the space I would say go with a SOG method.

All in all its really pretty easy, the most challenging part to me is the waiting to smoke the damn things. :weed:

Good luck :peace:

See it's people like you that make rollitup a nice community.

Yeah I've pretty much decided to go with a DWC setup.. I have no problem putting one together myself I just have a few more questions which can go out to anyone:

As for lighting, I'm going to check out that econlight but what others should I take a peak at, and also which lights should I be using to veg, and which for flowering? Do they make a ballast that supports both of the two?

My next question is about the SOG method mentioned above. Any explanation would be great.

Thanks alot,
J

Basically SOG is when you constanly have plants vegging and flowering at once in seperated grow areas. You have a veg room, where the lights are on the 18/6 schedule, and a flowering room where you have 12/12. You can have another room for the mother/clones, or you can just keep them in the veg room. When growing SOG most keep there plants small and force the plant to flower when theyre as little even 8 inches high. In this method you can harvest bud just about every month. If you look around the threads or even search google you can find some good information on it :bigjoint::peace:

yea that sounds like a good way to grow do u kno any good strains for this? I had lowryder #2's going but you cant really clone them cause they autoflower and so u would have to buy them each time and the feminized are kinda exspensive. Looking at some "thc bomb" and "top 44" has anyone heard of them?

Indicas are ideal for perpetual harvest, there are a ton of good choices, not many bad ones.. What are your concerns on odor-control/ventilation.. They should be on the list of primaries IMO..
DWC isn't as forgiving to problems as the hydroton you're familiar with, but if you have faith in yourself it is a powerful way to grow..
Keep the setup as modular/portable as you can.. Its really relaxing to look at what you've built and realize that you could have every trace of the grow hidden in 10 minutes, and its really stressful to realize that you couldn't possibly pull that off.. Keep empty boxes/rubbermaids in the room that can accomodate anything incriminating, and keep the plants short/stout so they don't get unhidable.. As a student boxes/rubbermaids look natural sitting around.. Get a house plant you could hang on the hook where your light will be..
With hydro especially, don't chince out on nutes and pH up/down.. Brand is up to you, but get something designed for the task.. ESPECIALLY with DWC..
I'd go with a 400W HPS like an EYE Hortilux which suppliments bluer light.. That would rock for 4 plants under a 3ftx3ft scrog, and would be perfectly usable in a larger setup if you expand in the future..
