Scrog - 5 Plants all bigger than 1. Should I top the 5 down to the small one?

Hey guys,

So I have 5 hindu skunk clones I've been growing for 3 weeks. There is a white widow from clone same timing as the rest.

The white widow is so much smaller than the others and I worry she won't get any screen space.

Should I cut the other 5 down to her level, or just say good luck and leave everything be.

FYI, I have topped all the plants once so far, all at around 1.5 weeks, and they all responded really well, except the white widow?

What do you guys think?

Thanks for the input.

If you're planning on vegging for a while more then topping is probably the way to go.
However you could always just thread the top of the tall one through your screen.

I was planning on vegging 4 weeks, but these girls just want to grow up so fast.

I think I'll cut them a little, give them another week or so.

Thanks for the input.

SpruceZeus - does that mean that you are the worlds largest wooden god?

So I cut the 5 big ones. I cut 1 once. I cut 3 five times. And I cut the monster 8 times.

Here's the pics.

Appreciate the input, bro. Thanks.

I thought the whole point of a scrog was to weave the plants under the screen as they grow above it?

Yeah it is, but if I weaved the plants as they were growing 90 % would have been Hindu Skunk, choking out the White Widow.

If I had 6 Hindu Skunks I would have just let them fight, get the screen space they got. But I'm trying to be nice to my one White widow. It may not be a great idea, but I want to be fair.

I could have just taken more clones and started with 6 of the same kind, but this is my first grow and I wanted to make things easy (at least to begin with). Only problem was the shop I got the clones at only had 5 Hindu skunks.

Does that make any sense?

I'm using the screen now during the last week of veg to do the weaving you mean. No more mr. nice guy, if a branch is long enough to move over another smaller plant, too bad.

Anyways, it's my first grow, and if you are following my thread I try to make things as complicated as possible.

Thanks for the interest though.

Here's new pics

Sorry, they are all dead.

I tried putting a couple in with some house plants, but no luck.

I'm out of money and I don't have a buck to buy rockwool and cloning gel, bla bla. Plus I don't have any room to clone things, My screen takes up all the room in the closet, and I have 9 cats so it's not like I can set them on the window sill.

That's why I'm growing in the closet actually, not for stealth, but to keep the kitties out.

Next grow I"m going to mother and clone. It did kill me though to think of the waste. If it were possible I would have sent them to one of you all.

Oh, I got ya. I think that the scrog tek really was developed for a single strain application. Your plants are doing well(+rep).

Hi, awesome looking grow dude! Just wondered how far from the soil level is ur screen? Never tried a SCROG, tend to just use a little LST and topping but the more i see them i really wanna give it a go! Keep us posted, can't wait to see u switch to 12/12. GL

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's your guys' fault my grow is going so well. All you bastards on rollitup help so much I have no choice but to do a good job.

Just wondered how far from the soil level is ur screen? Keep us posted.
My screen is 12" above. The accepted distance I believe is 8" -12" above the growing medium. My plants were clones started in rockwool plugs, that were surrounded by hydroton later. So no soil, but I guess the point of the distance is so that you can work under it. I think that 3" would technically work, but you wouldn't be able to get you arm underneath to position the plants.

I would say if you are Extremely limited by vertical space then the lowest your screen can go, while allowing work space, would be best. My deal for using a screen is that I'm using a closet that I really want to turn into a two level grow. So my vertical space is limited, but not crucially so. That is why I went with 12", to give myself some extra room to work, also to give the girls a little extra time to veg before flowering.

The other thing I love about growing is you can do whatever you want. What I mean is that yeah, I'm doing a scrog, and I guess it could be my only training tool, but I have topped all my girls a couple times and I'm tying down fan leaves (not sure if that counts for LST), also I'm using the screen to spread the tops as the get taller, allowing light into the middle of the plant like suppercropping/ LST (i may be totally using these terms wrong, but i have only really learned about scrog so forgive me).

I think the thing to a screen is that it give you the tool to make your yield huge for the limited light and space most of us have, but you get what you put in, ie. the more you work on the details and positioning, the more good buds you'll have.

My biggest problem is that you cant move anything once the screen gets involved. Not the biggest problem, but I like having control, and not being able to move, or even shift my plants sounds constricting, but I'll take it for the control I will get on individual bud sites.

I'll keep this thread updated very occasionally, however if you want all the details and nonsense that goes along with my grow, check the link in my sig.

Thanks again for the interest and support, fellas.

edit: just realized I uploaded the same pics as before. Sorry nothing new yet.

Hey guys,

I'm still weaving. I switched to 12/12 4 days ago.

I beleive I Totally out grew the screen, not sure though.

I have so many branches, and some are really long. I'm keeping them all below, except for the ones along the edges.

Any input is great.

Thanks.

Pics were taken 'Before' my tucking sessions. Everything (except edges) gets put under. I'm always just too tired to take pictures after 30 minutes stooped over.
