Scratch on hps bulb

hi,

so i am using a 600w bulb and it appears to have small scratches along the outer bulb. The scratches can't really be seen if the light is off, but when it is on these are noticeable at certain angles. Is this normal? Could raising lights on chains cause this to happen?

They aren't huge scratches and they appear not to have broken the glass surface. Do I have to get new lights? Would really like not to have to but understand if I do have to. Thing is though, I've only had the lights now for 3 weeks. Seems a bit fast for them to break. The actual lights still work very normal. The reason I checked is I felt a funny tingling on my finger that was near a light. Is that uv radiation?!?!

the bulbs may crack at the scratches by creating hot spots. i've had it happen more than once. just keep a spare bulb handy. hope that nothing gets a sunburn from the exposed element before you get to it.
