Scorpion Diablo 5x5

My buddy is letting me use his scorpion diablo! I run a 4 spot rdwc and I was wondering how to judge where to set the dial on the light?
I was told that it's too intense for a 5x5 on full blast so I was curious how I should go about judging the settings without buying a fancy LUX meter or what not.
It's a VERY big upgrade from the LEDs I was using so I'm curious to see the yield increase in a few months.

It's designed for a 5x5.
But being boards I'd stick to the recommended distance .

And probably start at 25% in veg and crank it up slowly

I run a 350R Diablo as one of my light bars; also 3x 3 288 QB bars from Timber (when they used to make them). You absolutely should get a lux meter they are only like $30. You're thinking of a true PAR meter which are $$$. For white light fixtures lux works just fine. I run my seedlings around 15k, veg mid 30k and flower 50k ish. There are lots of calculators and formulas online. Below is the one I use.

I've never been able to run my Scorpion Diablo X's over 70% or I scorch my plants!

I figured it would be slightly underpowered if anything for a 5x5.
Does it suffer from hot spots?

No, hot spots just a powerful light. Every single time I've turned either of them up to 8 I see burning. They have penetration equal to my old HPS. They seem to defy the laws of physics Weirdest shit is all my plants love them. They all just perk up under that light. Mine are the X the regular Diablos I have are two 350s they don't do that. But I don't run them flat out either.
