Save a Male?

Well, I just discovered my favorite plant is a F...k'n male plant. It was the most beautiful and crazy grow'n bastard and I loved it for 7 weeks. When I finally go 12/12 it's a male. The seeds came from The Attitude so there's a little bad advertising I feel compelled to give out. I only had 8 plants so 1 out of 8 is something like 12% male. Not too good for the money spent on "femenized" seeds. I guess it can happen and probably does,..and maybe often..."maybe", but now I'm faced with the reality of making a decision. Pull it out or not? So that's my question, What's a male worth in the end? Will my others get seeds or does it ruin my THC production? Or does one big bad male plant right in the middle of the crop just do it's own thing? It's suppose to be White Widow so it could still produce something good...right? Some times I wonder if what we're suppose to be buying at these seed shops are really what they say. Anyway, pissed or not, should I keep the damn thing or not? It's really huge and taking it out is like taking a third of my end results even if it's 1 of 8 plants. I'm PISSED. Tell me it doesn't matter. What's the bad of keeping it?

unless you want seeds i would get rid of it asap. if you do want seeds fdd has a good thread on seed production.

Well then fuck it. Guess I can't keep it. Really is a drag to kill the big S.O.B. but I put it in the fireplace and up the chimney it went. It was so big it squeezed out a couple others so they aren't nearly as fat as they could have been. I guess I could put the lights back to 18/6 but they're getting too tall for the bedroom so I'll just stick with what I've got. The remaining 7 should hopefully bud out nice and thick so maybe in the end I'll forget the horrible moment when I took out my sharpest bowie knife and killed the bastard.

often the biggest fast growing plant ends up being a dude.
In nature thats just the way it has to be in plants where their are multiple sexes (generally other types of plants get pollinated by pollinators i.e bees). The males need to be bigger and larger so the wind can move more and more of it's pollen to females that may be several feet away. One guy on here posted how his neighbors across the street were seeding his plants with their bunk grow. I don't doubt it consider how far pollens can travel.

To save yourself the headache next time you start from seed again. Take clones of the vegging plants and put them into flowering.

If any of the clones are male you will know you have a male among your plants well before you switch the light cycle.

*Side note: A dedicated flower space is needed to do this.

FYI they sold you "feminized" seeds, not female seeds, there is a reason they don't call them female seeds: Everyone grows differently and environment can affect sex of plants. A lot of us do not use fem seeds because of the higher possibility of hermies under stress. Whenever you buy seeds know that a male is possible, regardless of the type of seeds. All they do to get a "feminized" seed is force a female to create pollen, in theory this works out to be XX+XX=XX, but as we all know nature does not always follow rules and a random Y is always out there.

I figured they probably couldn't be 100% on the genetics...but only after I found a male. I was in a nice dream land where all my seeds were DEFINATELY female and that dream was shattered. But next time I'll make consessions to the fact that there may be a male so "plant a couple more" just in case. Coming from the corn belt I saw what humans can do with a grass plant (corn is just a human engineered plant that came from a species of grass) so I was hoping they mastered the art of feminizing weed. Guess not. But I also know that in any perfect corn field there was always a rogue plant sticking up so no one has mastered it.
