Maybe you could teach them several religions along with the possibility that they all might be bullshit and let them decide? or is that too much weight on a kid?

I raised my kid with no deities and no ontological lies. He has always loved xmas: the decoration, pageantry, music, great food and treats, giving and receiving gifts, and the warmth of friends and family. None of this is diminished knowing that Santa is a myth, much the same way knowing Super Heroes aren't real doesn't diminish the fun of pretending to be them. Although my parents were christian, my warm childhood memories of xmas don't have much to do with either Santa or Jesus, but rather with the things I mentioned earlier. It seems to me that parents do the santa lie because it's fun for them, not so much because it enhances the child's experience. We didn't want to infringe on other parents' right to choose for their children, so we instructed my son not to spill the beans. And for the most part, he didn't...
