i need to know what kind of sand i can use for the top of my plant grown in soil??

since i have a bug issue right now ive been told i can put about an inch of sand on the top of the plant to help kill the bugs and prevent them from laying eggs.

any help is appreciated..

you can use some thing like GreenSand

from http://www.gardeners.com/Greensand-Tomato-Fertilizer/FlowerGardening_FertilizersSoil,07-207,default,cp.html

Or you could use any standard sand that they sell in the lowes garden center. I personally wouldnt use the green sand because it may interfere with nutrients. But it doesnt really matter what type you use for your application your just trying to prevent pests from reaching your soil. Your better off using a cheap bag of sand at an inch or so deep.

no problem mane. just set it near ya plant and check it every now n then. i had to change mine every 2 days. big gnat problem. how does the sand thing work for feeding?? do you just water thru it or do you remove the sand?? i would think that the sand would limit the oxygen to the roots no??

i believe ya just water it thru the sand. not sure bout the roots tho. if they get enough oxygen or whatnot. i guess i will wait n see what happens to her.. n hope for the best.

well the bugs on the bottom of the saucer tray seem to be gone. maybe that sand i put on the plant helped it out. plus i am letting her dry out for a big b4 i water her again. see what that does..
