banks weren't forced to make sub-prime loans. it was totally voluntary. intelligent opinions are fine. ignorance is inexcusable.

"voluntary" like the way federal highway dollars are used to bend the states to the fed's will ?
The banks were "encouraged" by some "community organizations" to do something that was not in their best interest.

YOUR local LIBRARY, POST OFFICE, the STOPLIGHTS in every street ARE GOVERNMENT FUNDED acts of Socialism. In Socialism everything that people produce is in some sense is a social product, and everyone who contributes to the production of a good is entitled to a share in it. So since we pay taxes we can ALL use these public products . Now imagine if our tax dollars didn't go to bailing out banks but instead providing healthcare to people who have broken their back for this country and got paid 300 times less than their CEO who's crapping on a golden toilet? Would that be Communist or just the right thing any human with a heart would do?

lame. so you're telling me that insurance companies will defiantly declare that, despite healthcare reform, they don't have to cover children (if they choose not to) and banks do what their community organizations dictate.

well let me ask you this. there has been no wall street reform - at all - non- zippo - zero. so where are all the sub-prime loans the banks are "forced" to make? where did they go? they are forced to make them, aren't they? there are no new laws - so where are they?

look at texas they refused to allow such lax regulations for thier mortgage lending in thier state and consumer borrowing amounts

and they are sittin pretty right now compared to the rest of the country

In that case there is no excuse for you since you are the ignorant one. The banks were absolutely forced by law to make those loans. The Government, under Clinton imposed a rating system based on the number of sub-prime loans made and used this rating system as leverage. A low rating also meant the bank would be subject to civil litigation.

Know WTF you are talking about before you speak.

"There's a presumption that the Federal Reserve's an independent agency, and it is up to a point, but we are a creature of the Congress and if ... we had said we're running into a bubble and we need to retrench, the Congress would say 'we haven't a clue what you're talking about'," Greenspan said.
