Runtz mothers yellower/brighter than I suspect is healthy

Hi fellas,

pictured are 4 guava runtz I’m raising as mothers

They are a bit yellower/brighter than I suspect is healthy. Any ideal why?

Week 5 planted in Gaia’s gift (extra nitrogen). I have not really implemented too much nutrients yet besides supplementing with kelp/humic acid at 5/2 ratio, calmag, silica, and super thrive every other watering. Topped twice at 12 inches and 24 inches. Temperature 75, humidity 60.

There are better alternatives to that over priced “ mix “. A simple bagged potting mix would have run circles around that boutique blend of nothing.

Even fox farm ocean forest with a bump in perlite and 10% add if EWC.
What is the PH you are adding when you water ? Your mix doesn’t even say if it has any buffers.

I’m a victim of product marketing.

I used to use FFOF. Switched to Gaia recently. Have not seen substantial difference actually besides nitro toxicity (dark bottom foliage with tips curing down). About the same price. Does have a bit of perlite for buffer.

Solution PH is 6.5

Btw. My lights were super close. At 6-8 inches at full blast. About 975 umol..

I raised the lights to 18 inches and lowered intensity to 50%

noticeably happier and greener after 2 days

Perlite basically volcanic glass heated like popcorn for simple aeration / drainage of soils. It does nothing for ph buffering.

The other amendments you use kelp / humic , CalMag and silica are fine in most circumstances, but superthrive is another snake oil potion. Find a mix that lists ingredients to judge its nute density.

Here are but a few good “ bagged “ mixes … some may need a minor dry fertilizer bump .

Oyster Shell is good or Garden lime for buffering. But it is easier to get it already ratio in the mix.
