I have also heard that a white flakey ash is from too much calcium but I'm not buying it.

Nutes largely affect burn qualities.
Too much cal will whiten the ash and can make it flakey

Go burn a cube of SUGAR and you will have your answer, Sugars that are not fermented out during the drying curing process will make shitty smoking weed.
