hey!

first of all id like to thank everyone on this site. Ive spent days and days on it, going through the forum, theres so much awesome info here! hats off to your passion and dedication :)

This is my first grow. I invested some money in the setup and got a homebox S 80x80x160cm, got a 400W hps light and use my floor fan for ventilation. I got plagron's grow mix soil in 6 liter pots and 6 clones, 3 bushman (sativa dom.) and 3 sensi stars (indica dom.). For nutes i bought the bionova's bioroots, bn-zym, soil supermix and pk 13/14 for bloom

Its been 2 weeks since I got the clones, and I think they are growing nicely. A few problems here and there...

So I got the clones in rockwool and planted them in soil pots. First week I watered them with just the bioroots, so the root system would develop. dosages of all nutes i've written below. I always used less then what it says on the bottles to make sure i dont over do it. I water twice/thrice a week.

Second week, which has just ended, I used the soilmix NPK 524 with some b-nzym when i started to notice a little discoloration on the leaves and some burn on one of the leaf's edges.

They are pretty big now :) put a smile on my face whenever i see them.

Today I start my bloom cycle. My 18/6 cycle was from 7am to 1am and i've adjusted it today to make it 12/12 7am to 7pm.

dosage:
bioroots: on the bottle it says 5 ml/litre, i gave 3 ml/l
soil supermix: on the bottle 5 ml / litre, i gave 3.5 ml/l
bnzym 3ml/l, i gave 1.5 ml

The soil I use has a ph of 5.5-6.5, EC: 1.4 and 1.6 and NPK is 12/14/24

Some questions:

1) Do they look good and healthy overall?

2) They are now a little over a foot. My box is 5'2 feet in height. I hope they dont out grow it..

3) Im thinking ill give them fresh water in their next feed and then switch to bionova pk13/14
Wont i still need some N? should I mix the soil supermix 524 and pk 13/14 (in low dosages), this way they get some N too. But might be overloading the p and k.

4) I dont have a ph tester for soil or water, some curling on the leaves and color problems can still be seen in the pictures. Is it totally necessary to get a ph test? Or is this much deformity still ok? its only on a few leaves.

Thanks!

I would back off on the nutes a bit you are adding enzymes that break down nutrients to a hot soil while feeding quite heavy. Almost all deficiencies and lockouts are just over and under fert problems. I would back off and keep em on water til they look a little light green and hungry.

The sativa will double in high (ish) and the indica will probably bush out and grow another 6-12 inches. I havent grown those strains before so I cant be too specific im afraid.

I normally feed vegging nutes until the 2nd week of flowering (ish) then drop the veg and start the bloom low and work up. I personally think that less N late in flowering is a good thing but thats just personal preference.

I would say PH is essential unless you know the strain and the setup well enough to not have to check it and just know it will be in range.

When running in hot soil like yours I normally dont even feed until the first/second week of flowering and even then I start weak.

This is just me rambling about what I think take it or leave it :)

I would go a week without nutes then start real gentle on the bloom and work up. Take notes and work three days behind when you observe the effects of feeds. Once you nail it you will find the right level to keep growth going quickly.

Taking notes is one of the most important things in growing, either that or just remembering what you did and the dates and stuff.

Go and buy some PH drops I got some for 3 pounds. Get the narrow range ones they are usually ph 6-7.6 or something like that and it will give you an idea of whats going on with your nutrient uptake. I think you will find your runoff ph is a lot lower than you would like.

work three days behind...would that mean after the feed the effects can be fully seen after 3ish days?
in that case it would probably be best to feed low bloom nutes and not give them every time i water, probably every other watering.

will start journaling...i tend to be lazy!

thanks again!

Yeah thats right :)

You dont even need to journal really I started with a notepad that I just put the dates amounts and measurements from the feeds. It's no biggie to do really and once you get into the habit you have a set schedule for that strain that you can follow any time you want. You know how to grow that plant, then you have a baseline to improve upon and you can judge what impact any changes on your setup and environment have.

04102011032.jpghi everyone

been a long time since i updated this thread, my plants are doing ok...i think. They are now 17 days into flowering, and there is yellowing on the leaves. i guess a little yellowing is ok, but some of the fan leaves have turned totally yellow. its only on the fan leaves in the middle, no yellowing on the top or bottom leaves. mouse, u probably wouldnt like this, but i still dont have a ph tester. last time i went to get the ph tester i ended up buying a urine test kit! sucks to not know german in austria :D but anyway, i was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a nute deficiency or an over fertilizing problem...or just plain nute lock because the soil is not properly ph'ed? I've been feeding them 1 ml bionova soilmix 5.2.4 and 1 ml bionova pk13/14 for the past 2 feeds (no plain water in between since they looked hungry). Also I have enzymes would that help if instead of nutes i give them enzymes with plain water next?

thanks in advance :)

5.2.4 is ok, I'd skip that pk until later in flowering. High PH probably locking out N. N is important all the way to the finish regardless what charts tell you. Digital PH meter like $14 US on ebay.

thanks 303, i guess ill have to get a ph meter before my next feed. another 4 weeks to harvest, i shouldnt be loosing my fan leaves now..

Correct, you should never loose fan leaves. Never yellow, not even on harvest day. It will take some many runs for the beginner, knowing NPK ratios and not buying into gimmicks and charts is a start. Good luck.
