Rosin forever

So as best I can determine, I need to grow roughly six pounds a year in order to squish into year's supply of rosin (based on how often I fire up the Puffco).
Second goal is to do it right the first time; been reading various threads looking for common new guy pitfalls (insert cal-mag joke?) to avoid - I want a problem-free first grow, followed by continued improvement across future grows.
Yes - I know I will not achieve such a yield on the first grow... or second/third/etc.
I'm in a legal state, and - best I can tell - in one of the few areas in the county that allows outdoor grows; perhaps something to explore later (how cool is the landscape guy?).
Note - some design choices heavily impacted by an effort to appease the wife.

Thoughts so far:

- LED: due mostly lower heat/electric costs; though I have complete confidence in my DIY skills, would prefer something professionally built with as much certification as possible (occupational hazard); due to logistics - and their presence on this forum - I'm looking very hard at Timber (maybe someone can tell me if strip or COB is better for my application); my gut tells me I'm special enough for the new Magnolia, but convince me otherwise.
- Tent: unsure of size due to my goal (6lbs/year), but have space for up to 5x5 with a high roof; seems like a tent is much like a tool box - someplace functional to keep the good stuff, doesn't need to be fancy.
- Medium: soil; would love to try living soil, but later down the road.
- Intake/exhaust fans/filters; I understand tent size will drive this decision.
- Fans for circulation, cool light.
- Humidifier/dehumidifier: if circumstances dictate.
- Fire suppression device: saw a thread with things you hang that explode with repellent if heated.
- Soil/PH testing equipment.
- Timer.
- Nutrients (no idea here).
- Seeds: feminized, looking at JBC; if someone could tell me what was popular/available in Sonoma county in the mid/late 90s, that would be my first choice - we just referred to it as 'Sonoma Coma.'
- Pest control.
- Rosin press and accessories.
- what else?

Thanks in advance for any input.

You can def reach your goals with a 5x5. Just research lights and get one that's recommended here, you can always ask people here before you make a big purchase so you start out right with no regrets. Do your research but don't get too hung up on advanced techniques, just aim for a simple grow, try to keep your leaves healthy, and keep things simple. Even if you want to get into organics, I'd start with a simple grow using a complete salt formula, like Maxibloom-here is a good old Maxibloom thread https://www.icmag.com/forum/marijuana-growing/nutrients-and-fertilizers/189616-the-k-i-s-s-method?t=191645. Once you pull in a crop successfully, you can branch out and try different things since you now have a baseline to judge from.

"I need to grow roughly six pounds a year in order to squish into year's supply of rosin"

That sounds about right...I know when I was dabbing regularly, I would go through about a half pound of flower a month.

And smart you are thinking ahead of pest control...Think about powdery mildew control too...Those are 2 biggies that most don't think of until it takes out their crop.

Here's a few great ones that are certified organic, if you don't want to ingest poison's. First, for PM

and for pests Venerate or Grandevo

All of these products are meant to be used as preventatives, but will work with an outbreak as well...although not as well.

Happy dabbing

Follow-up question - when using a tent, is there a certain amount of clearance - 12", etc. - needed around the perimeter to account for accessories? If using a 5x5, should I plan a space of 6x6?
Thank you

Hey there. If your planning to start growing and wanna eventually do living soil, just invest in the bigger pots and the buildasoil off the bat. You’ll be able to reuse the soil with some simple reamending which they also sell that mix.

Last time I did 50/50 yard soil and peat moss in 5 gal grow bags with organic teas. It worked ok. Next grow will be SIP with a more designed soil.

Use a good medium. Not yard dirt. Try to keep it simple as possible. Lights are also very important. I used hps but maybe led down the road. I’ve heard LEDs are good lights.
