Ok as many of you have probably seen I like to modify/chop n change all my Grow-Cab accessories, well here's the thing!...

I know plants cant see Green Light so thats why a Green Light is perfect for a night light..

But..

Could I add "GREEN NEON LED SPOTS" in the DWC Res.. to show a Silhouette of the roots on the out side of the DWC Res. ~ and also to give me a 'Neon Green' water level.. ??

Typically I know roots should have 100% darkness to mimic natural growth, but I am wondering that since the leaves and plant matter above are un-effected by Green Light would the roots also not mind the Green Light ??

I have a vision of how great this could look from a design perspective.. and only want the light in there for presentation purposes,.. I don't expect any bigger yields or anything it would be purely to illuminate the roots and make my water level gauge glow green...

I have put this question in the 'Advanced Section' because I want answers from Advanced Growers/Designers who's info is top notch and factual :) :)

+REP! for best accurate answers, many thanks -STELTHY :leaf:

I don't know if anyone has tried this, so most likely no one can give you a proper answer...lol...Go for it, let us know what happens...

It you can see a silhouette of the roots and water level by shining the green light in your rez, does that mean that during the lights on period light is getting in? I dunno, food for thought...I guess as long as the roots are happy it's all good, right? Try it out, post your results!

**would look really cool thats for sure :) cant give ya a def answer Stelthy but ive grown (open.LWC) systems w/ the roots were exposed to HPS/MH/Sunlight, still had a good finish too :) hope that helps..

--post pics of this tho, cool idea~

Cheers for the quick reply guys ... I'll keep on looking into this but am very tempted to experiment with the 'Green Root Lighting' on my next grow, if anyone has any more info on 'Root Lighting' I am all for reading your posts, I could be a pioneer in this area :) lol - STELTHY :leaf:

I wouldn't try it because remember light hitting the roots is bad and can cause unwanted stuff to start thriving in your water. But if you want to try it out I say go for it.

Yeah I know light hitting the roots is bad (general rule of thumb) But I am thinking if I use 'Green' light maybe the plant wont be effected by it, the same as when a green light is on at the top (night light) it is considered unseen by the plant and its leaves.. so would the roots also not detect a light if that too was 'Green' and in the 'Res' illuminating the roots etc !??

Would the roots be able to detect the light since its 'Green' and would the roots respond in the same way as the foliage ie/ it will have no bad side effects etc etc ??

I will do this at some point in my next grow most prob...but for now I dont wanna risk harming my Royal-Haze in any way what so ever :) - STELTHY :leaf:

I would guess it's a bad idea. Leaves appear green as they reflect the green wavelength, which is why the nightlights work. Roots, however aren't (hopefully!).

I wonder if there is a colour light that would be ok to use maybe even a 'Black-Light' ??...Failing that I could illuminate just the water-level and incorporate a neon float as well! I would still like to try the green in the DWC Res.. I will experiment with it in a month or so... - STELTHY :leaf:
