Roots growing Through Smart pots

is this normal? 5gl smart pots, 20 days into flower. i have my smart pots sitting in a strainer with a bowl underneight the strainder to catch runn off. is it cool to just have roots out of the soil like that?

i am sue they will just die off as they get too much air. but the rest of the pot is still full so i dont think a little segment of roots dying will hurt the plant

Yes. Very normal and it is in fact the reason for smart pots and why I love them. I can use smaller pots. They never get rootbound. By harvest the entire smartpot will be a rootball. I have to add soil because roots come back to the surface.
