Rootbound maybe?

Ok i was luck enough to be given some plants of an unknown strain and age, i would wager a guess of being like 1-1.5months old sativa dominant strain....

They have got to be root bound, they are about 2 feet tall now and the person still had them in "red starter pots" they came in a black tray with 20 of these pots that are like 4x4x4 roughly with only like 2 inches of dirt in them. They are outside and i went this morning after the small frost and picked them up out of the tray and realized they had like foot long roots out the bottom so i know i need to transplant them or plant outside etc.....

(this was not my doing i know the pots are way tooooo small!!)

When i transplant or plant them how to i preserve the roots going out the bottom so no more damage is done then has already been done??

If the tray the plants are in is plastic, cut it, cut the bottoms out, slice/cut them so the roots can be removed from the trays with minimal or no damage.

Yea just be very careful and cut the pot away. Keep the roots very wet the whole time. Spray them down with plain water constantly. Dry roots are more brittle.

Thanks, thats what i figured i would do they seem to be thin plastic... Now on to the next dilemma lol theres always another one right? LOL

I cannot afford pots for all these nor do i have the room to conceal that many pots until when i planed to put them in the ground, how old do they have to be before they will survive any possible frosts? We had a small one last night and they seem ok?

The reason i ask is because this was unexpected that i would have these plants and im not prepared do you think it would be ok to just put them in the ground early?

They are fairly moist already since the small pots are all being held by a long black tray underneath all the water from yesterdays rain collected in it and the roots are just sitting in them, i think im going to get rid of the tray the pots are in today until i can get a chance to plant them because i dont want to roots to be too wet isnt that bad for them?

Now that is a real problem since plants do not really like any frost. If you cannot scrape up some buckets lying around somewhere and drill holes in the bottoms to use for pots and you have to get the plants into the ground you can put stakes around them and when the temperatures will be low enough where you might get frost cover them with a tarp or blankets or something to keep what heat they have in and as much cold as possible off of them.

After that all I can say is good luck and in the future save up some bucks for needed materials.

I would have the money/place/time/materials etc etc.... If they were something i did but i already have my own plants and im out of room for more, these were just given to me from a buddy i had not seen in a long time, he just dropped them off since hes moving and couldn't take them....

I wont be able to pot them again and i have to leave them out every night i have no where to take them indoors and i don't think that covering them will be an option due to close proximity of other people and the "green" in the woods is just starting to fill in so its alot more open still and i dont need the attention of stakes and blankets even though its an awesome idea just not ideal for my situation, i kind of wish in the back of my mind i didnt have these babies
