Yes.
Being root bound means more waterings, and less nutrients in the soil to support the plant.
When you transplant them into bigger containers...
... take a razor, and score the outside of the root ball vertically up the side in 3 or 4 places.
Then give the roots a rub and tickle before putting them into the bigger pot. This will eliminate spinout, and stimulate new growth.
