Root Decay: Ant Problems

so there's this plant, its lost all of its lower leaves except for the top few levels.

there are three smaller plants around it. and a friend of a friend had it growing in his backyard in one tiny little pot.

so naturally i decided i had to do something about it. transplant.

but when i went to pull the rootball up. it was covered with ant larvae and most of the roots were dead in the bottom of the pot.

it was a pretty healthy plant though, green smelled really good. oh yeah and i put some nitrogen spikes in the soil as well. hopefully this'll fuel the flowering process a little.

so i guess my question is..
do you think the ants will eventually eat the rest of the rootball?
