Ro water

Just need some tips on cheap water
I know it sounds dumb but I got through about a gallon of water a day feeding all my girls. At 1 dollar a day that adds up. Any ideas on a cheaper solution? Maybe buying a good filter or something?

My water is suuuper hard sitting at .65ec out the tap so it's harsh on seedlings

RO is a good start. My water has chloride so I RO and add salts.

Iv used my tap before. Never had problems. But if you must. You can buy a small aquarium and run thru a fish filter for a day or 2. I use a 10 gal for that exact reason. (It just cracked and a new one in the mail lol).
Or maybe a Brita, Case of bottled water.

Mix your tap with the ro. Can save a lil that way. Bring that 0.65 down to 0.3.

It also depends on what is in it. If the 0.65 is stuff the plant wants you can modify your feed accordingly.

I use tap and have pretty hard water without any issues.. Soil growing though.
Have an small ro setup for drinking water, but it is pretty wasteful with the amount of discharge/waste water per gallon

I used to use a little one for hydro but now I just use it for drinking. Shit is awful 4-1...need to throw it away and upgrade.

Thanks for all the replies... what I'm curious about is how to figure out what's in the water? Do you just go to government site and trust thier word or is there an at home test or something?

Think for now I'll do the mixing to lower ec. Thanks everyone

i send mine off to a place in oregon. you pick what all you want tested for, he sends some vials and then you send them back

For soil or hydro? .65 ec isn't horrible for hydro and ok for soil. Mine is 1.3 ec
At .65 ec you probably have a water softner and you don't want sodium in your water. Use tap water before it goes through a softner.

Dehumidifier water. I've also used the condensate from my high efficiency furnace. I run through a 5 micron carbon filter just to take out any dust etc. It's 25 ppm/.05 ec.

how many gallons did you run thru it if you had to guess?
Wild guess....600 gallons.
Thats with a starting tap tds of around 150ppm.

Eventually the output ppm started to creep up around 25, that’s when I decided to replace it for a larger higher flow unit.

(I only use RO because my tap ph and tds changes several times a year. Something my water company is doing. Hated the inconsistency.)

Grow with the Tapwater... betting the plants won't care (obviously seedlings are a bit more fragile though)

That sounds like a crazy process... got any docs for easy setups? I'm doing hydro. I'm growing in coco and straight in water

RO systems are nice, but you have to make sure you clean all of your sediment filters on time. My buddy was using an RO system for his plants and was having all sorts of issues then ph'd his water and it was at like 3 or something. Turns out he hadn't changed his filters for a few years.

Set a gal. bottle in the sink to fill.. Even if you forget to change bottles, or pass out from smoking to much pot, the over flow will run down the drain..
