So I bought this water filtration device for 10$ at wally world. I want to know if its worth the hassle and time to hook up. And should I use this only when changing/adding water to my DWC or can it be used 24/7?

Thats not a RO filter. I have the same thing for my fish tank. Those filters, that are suppose to be changed every two weeks are as expensive as the one i use to filter my entire house for a month. I dont think that will give you what you are looking for. Just my 2 cents.

I was thinking that this would drop my PPM level down to 0 so that i can have better effects with my nutrients and ph adjusters.... is this junk?

Have you looked at the filter that comes with that thing. You can see thru them! I dont think this is what you are hoping it would do. Go to walmart and they have lots of real RO water filters for the same price you got that thing for. I have one that hooks up to my water main of my house. Itook me about thirty min to hook it up. And the filters are only a couple bucks to change out

Never ever listen to that "someone" again. That is made for fish tanks. It filters out large particulates and some organic and inorganic compounds. It will not signifigantly lower tap water's ppm. R/O, deionization, and distillation are the types of filtration that are effective for this. You got hosed. Sorry.
