Rinsing & Buffering Coco coir question

I’ve been running in coco coir for about 6 months now. Do to circumstance I’ve really just been dealing with propagation and veg.

im transplanting to 1 gal finishing containers on a table SOG style Purple Afghan Kush.

my question is this,

Is it fine to rinse my coir in my tap even though my tap comes out .5 ec 8.1?
I’m not worried so much about the high ec but the high ph I do not want my coco going up nearly that high.

if I do rinse with my tap I would imagine my ph of coir would be higher than ideal maybe that’s where the post rinse CaMG soak corrects things post rinse?

if rinse is 8.1-8.2 at .5 ec that’s gunna leave my coco in that ph and ec range.



once I take that coco that’s assumed to have a high ph and modest amount of salt will soaking it in my 1.5x CaMg solution phed ~5.5 reset my coir with an appropriate ph and ec level?



4x4 315 cmh w/ electric sky 300 led (once I flip)

flora flex nutrients

fed at 1.1 ec at the moment

fertigated 2x daily now

temps 75-77. 70-72

humidity 55-60%

Hello, well I would flush with water pH'ed already so you don't change anything. EC 0,5 is still not hard water, rather medium-hard, it's ok to flush coco's with it as the coco's already takes abit Ca out of that.

not 100% because you cannot expect that you'll be able to flush everything 100% out of the substrate but close. But at this point there will be not many minerals contained in the mix so the oH could fluctuate rapidly either up or down depending on what you'r feeding. But at the end of the day you're overwriting eveything by charging up the coco's with CalMag at the right pH target range.
So it may not be necessary to flush with pH'ed water due to this in this case....

Overwriting everything with phed CaMg charge**** thanks so much for the good information.

I have a question, not entirely sure if this is the correct place or time. Anyways, my question is i am about to use Coco coir for the first time. I've done some research, saying to rinse the coir then add Calmag buffering. Okay, I understand all of that. Now my question is after you've added the buffer (Calmag) how long after I've done that do I need to add Calmag into my feeding schedule or do I not need too?

I’ve been having success with supposed “buffered” coco I’ve worked with 3 different brands now saying there buffered and good to go, all of which were not.

I run CaMg at 6ml per gallon with my purple Afghan kushs so far they seem happy. The coco is robbing them of probably half or more of that CaMg.

Seems as though if you run high CaMg by the time your watering every day the coco is happy and releasing CaMg
