Rice dry?

trying to dry my buds as quickly as possible due to some circumstances that have come up. Any one think that a larg bin lined with dry rice could speed up the process? ive herd people drying cellphones this way and wondering if anyone has tried it for buds. thought ide lay the buds on some paper bags ontop of the rice and hope not too much rice doesnt get stuck to the resin. I dont want to put them under lamps to dry so fig this would make a nice dry, moisture pulling environment with no light. any comments would be great

uncooked rice can contain Bacillus cereus if im not mistaken, its a bacteria that causes food poisoning i think, i would question mold also seeing as how the goal would be for the rice to absorb the moisture but i cant say for sure, any other opinions?

hmmm yea i dont think mold would be too much of an issue as all i want is to dry in here, not cure, remove bud moisture and then remove the buds quickly ~2-3days. so after the rice has absorbed im just going to remove it and jar the product. Thanks for the bacteria heads up ill have to look into that. Any other comments on this guys?

It sounds like that could work. But unless you are in a very humid area i think drying in a cardboard box in one layer - a single newspaper ...paper over could work just as good. Let us know if that rice trick works even faster than a regular cardboard box - definitely going to need a lot more rice for your own option ;O))

take it from a chef, you can use the rice to dry the herb, but rice is not perfectly clean, you dont want to smoke the rice dust that will cover your bud afterwards.

easy there cowboy, stay inside your area of specialty. bacteria need water to reproduce, and unless you get some rice that was gotten wet and then put back in a bag or in a box it wont ever contain bacteria.

If rice works that well then i think putting the herb (for smaller quantities) in a brown paper bag and put paper bag into rice ? - in my head that would work well - and you don't have to dust of the bud afterwoods ;O))

yea i seperated the rice from the buds for that reason, just put a few pieces of cardboard. buds looks alright at the moment...

ehhh not too happy with the results guys. i think im just going to use rice in the bottom of jars to make sure no waters are left for curing. Results= waste of time to try to dry with rice, hang dry for better results and use rice as protection against moisture not for a quick dry

Rice does sound like it might work, but I always stick to conventional methods. One way (kind of extreme) is to get a de-humidfyer in the smallest room of the house that you got (10 X 10 space works fine) and setting it on max dry setting. You have to monitor the shit out of it though. MY buds are bone dry after 4 days. perfect after 2 and a half.

Nice to know Dam - thanks for the efford - now we don't have to test it out too. Sounds like right to me with a couple of rice grains in the bottom of the glass jar.
De-humidifier idea sounds great for an emergency quick dry ;O))

We're going to do it in the garage. It's dry and +20 degrees whatever it is outside. We just stapled some trashbags to the windows for blackout purposes the other day. Can't wait!! :D

There are bacteria spores on the rice and when the rice gets wet the spores are activated.

It's a good way to dry small batches to see if that produces more desirable results in terms of burn, taste etc.As for drying, it does work.People dry their table salt like this, or just keep it from clumping, with rice.
Also, considering that you are not using heat or moving too much air over it potency should stay locked dead.I would say try and get fresh, un-opened to the air, yet, rice.
Seriously, an absorptive type of drying method like this may be something to try and tweak...

I have dried some of my most prized densest buds in a jar of rice and smoked the final product and I was vvvverrrryyy happy with it! So I would recommend it and If you want to do it in a bin I woulld put paper towels over the rice and then lay the buds on top of that. I had rice stuck in my buds and had to pick it out with a small poker and it was still dank as fuck tasting and got me hell torn up for hours mate!

I got to this thread looking for any info on drying the buds on SALT. I was stoned to the bone the other night, and saw a great documentary about salt on TV. And since our civilization have used salt since god knows when, to dry all kinds of goods, I was wondering how good would it be to dry weed?

Has anybody tried or heard anything about it? Just curious.
