THC thanks for the advice bro. I wasn't quite sure if the screen just held them down until they started popping flowers and then stretch through. I will make sure I take the longer branches and weave them through like you said.

Just a side not: I am currently pursuing a graduate degree in Instructional Technology and this forum is actually a very efficient form of instruction. Expert advice can be distributed on a global level and in a real time environment. And the information is stored so that any user may access any content from anywhere. Really amazing stuff as I am starting to learn.
cool........................................lol

I am looking at purchasing some high bay HPS lights. The owner says they will work with either 220/ or 110. Currently they are wired for 220. Does anyone have any info on how to rewire these? or create a remote ballast system. He wants to sell me (3) 400 watt HPS lamps with bulbs for $200. I know I can get a brand new digital ballast 400watt with reflector for 200?? anyone think this is a good deal? Or any thoughts on how to make a remote ballast or if these are even usable. Thanks RIU, I love you guys

wait, so he is going to sell you three 400w hps ballast, reflector, everything for 200?? thats a deal, but dont you think thats a little much for you starting off? that's 1200w, I mean you are use to growing under floros. If you can, and you have the room for a set up like that, more power to you, go for it! That's a hell of a deal, that I dont think I could pass up. Not sure about the conversion, should be as simple as getting a 110 plug and wiring it in, then flipping a switch from 220 to 110. That or you could just plug it in to your clothes dryer socket.

Yeah this is more for planning for the future. I plan to finish these with the flouros, or maybe toss 1 of them on my scrog now. But he wants to get rid of all 3 together, so i figure I would grab all three...Thinking maybe 3 seperate 4x4rooms run in a row like this [++++] [++++] [++++]. That way I could control each room independently and maybe run a perpetual grow. I have about 120 sq. ft room in my basement next to my electrical panel. This would give me plenty of options.... I know its a big jump, but they would be nice to have around. Thanks for the post bro!! glad to have you on board

So after my long rant and rave about flouros and even canopies.. I find myself in a position to acquire a bunch of HID gear from a new friend for a pretty good trade. So..... it looks like I could be switching to the brighter side of things... Anyway, anybody have any advice for modding these to make remote ballast and change reflector? Does it even need to be modded? I plan on leaving it on 220 since I have easy access to my panel and was told it will draw less power through 220 than 110.. any feedback on whether to switch to HID? I am less than a week into flower

Just read through (someguy)'s journal.. very impressive. If anyone want to see HID matched against flouros side by side his journal shows it all. It also plays on the fact that HID is stronger right below the bulb and dissipates greatly in the corners of a room. Anyone interested in SCROGs and HID vs. Flourescent should check it out. All this great information just makes you think about how you wanna try your next grow. I love this place!!!! Rock on everyone

Ok, so I should be acquiring a bunch of new gear 2morrow. A new found friend of mine only has an outdoor patch going anymore and is dry for the time being. In exchange he is going to trade me:

3X400watt high bay commercial HPS light fixtures with 3 brand new bulbs.
Sun System 6 1000 watt switchable ballast NIB (comes with socket and hood + brand new bulb)
1X 400watt metal halide setup (socket, bulb, hood)
1X 250 metal halide setup (socket, bulb, hood)

and a couple timers and whatnot..

Not sure if any of this will be implemented in this journal, but i think I am getting a pretty good deal. he wants 5 franklins for all of it, but willing to barter for some veggies

Ok guys, so the meeting with my friend went well. Didn't get everything I listed previously... but I sure did make out like a bandit. All good things come full circle and I will be sure to take care of the man who took care of me when I can.

Anyway here is the list: (pictures will follow order of the list, just in case anyone has questions to what is what.

Ballasts:
3X400watt commercial high bay ballasts. Brand spanking new!!!

1X1000watt Sun Systems MH/HPS conversion ballast. (If I am correct according to the box, this thing will power any size bulb up to 1000watts? if someone can clarify that would be great...kinda new to HID lighting.)

****Soon to come is the 400 MH ballast, didn't have enough room in the car****

Bulbs: (All brand new, never fired... the threads don't have a mark on them)

3X400 watt HPS

1X1000 watt MH

1X1000 watt HPS

Reflectors:

2 Sun Systems reflector, only one socket and cord though. (If I buy another socket and cord I can leave both hoods set up at all times and just switch the cord out of the ballast...((I thought was pretty neat)).

3X industrial HPS reflectors.

and he tossed in a bathroom exhaust fan to go with it all plus 2 ph testers.. Any and all comments are welcome. Paid 5 bones for everything.

Here's the pics

If anyone would like to make any suggestions for a new setup I would be very inclined to listen. I have a room sectioned off in my basement that is 12X12 and 6 feet tall. My electrical panel is located in the room and I have hot and cold water that could be easily run into the room via a garden hose. Also the room contains a drain on a sloped floor that runs directly into my sewer system... gotta love 100+ year old houses.... Got plenty of access to fresh air, and venting heat should not be a problem as I have another 500 sq. ft. in the basement to vent hot air too.. also someone told me about putting a Y split with a cap on my chimney that exhausts all the nasty gasses from my natural gas boiler...

Please comment and make suggestions, I wanna hear what EVERYONE thinks!!! Peace

You asked for it, you got it Dr.

The small ones have only been outside 2 weeks.. and I am pretty sure I stressed them pretty bad when I plopped them out there. You can really see all the new growth above the bushy base.

The bigger ones are just shy of being outside a month now. Watered them for the first time today, even though I don't think they needed it.. I think the water table must stay very close to the surface in the area I am in. I really want to get a new camera, I can't taken pics any bigger than 110kb.. Any recommendations?? Here comes the eye candy
