I have been looking into purchasing an RO system due to my terrible tap that I have been using which reads about 300 ppm on the .5 scale
so I after some research into the subject i'm a little confused about a couple things

First of all after several reviews and searching various brands I have found myself at
a site called the filterguys.biz and i'm not sure which one to get I have been interested
in the RO/DI system
$135.00 - OCEAN WAVE FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI
  • All systems are made to order with clear 10" canister housings
  • Stage One NSF rated 5 micron poly sediment filter
  • Stage Two 5 Micron Matrikx NSF rated CTO carbon block filter
  • Stage Three 0.6 Micron Matrikx NSF rated +1Chlorine Guzzler carbon block
  • RO membrane 75 GPD Dow FilmTec
  • Stage Five in-line color-changing DI cartridge
  • Quick connect fittings
  • Self Piercing Saddle Valve Water Supply Connection
  • Drain Connection
  • Filter wrench to make cartridge replacement easy
ADD ONS:PRESSURE GAUGE KIT - $14MEMBRANE FLUSH VALVE - $10RO BYPASS VALVE - $12DUAL TDS METER - $35DUAL DI SYSTEM - E-MAIL FOR PRICINGAUTO SHUT-OFF - GPD FILMTEC MEMBRANE OPTIONAL - $5

So my question is I will only require couple gallons every now and then
as I have a small scale garden going will I be able to hook it up to the sink or will
I need additional attachments to do so?

FEEL FREE TO MENTION ANYTHING ELSE I WILL NEED OR THAT I AM MISSING OUT HERE
ANY INPUT WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED THANKS,
HERE IS A LINK http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm

EDIT: SORRY FOR THE MISSPELLED TITLE

it doesn't say anything about connection other than this...Self Piercing Saddle Valve Water Supply Connection
you may have to buy some fittings at the home depot or whatever hardware store you have access to.

Yah I have seen hydrologic systems at my local hydro store but I feel that they are just overpricing it
as for this one I could get for about 30$ cheaper including shipping and handling and being that I live in an apartment
the garden hose attachment could pose a slight problem.
I think I might have to go check out home depot if the system doesnt already come with one
THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLIES

i have some knock off some water guy sold a bunch of to the grow shop.. works fine. The only thing to think about is the clear filter holders. If you have them setup in the light area they will get algae. But it is nice to be able to see them (in case they get algae) lol. Just think about it. some of them are back plastic which I suspect doesnt get any build up.
also im not sure the algae matters because it seems to just be on the sediment filter side and the carbon seems to not have it. and my clean water rez definitely doesnt have any algae.

have you EC/ppm tested your RO water?

I see them (ro units) cheap on Craig's List all the time.
You need enough water pressure in your in coming line to make them work and be aware that you discharge to waste several times more water than you keep. I've had one set up to a float switch shutoff on a barrel and it worked fine.
RO water sure helps with concerns about unknown quantities of mineral and how they may affect your nutrients.
The other cheap possibility to consider depending on climate you live in and your building is rain water harvesting. Easy cheap and generally low in tds etc. depending on the roofing material.

I have had this unit for a while now...It is easy to move and hooks up to any standard kitchen type faucet...it works great, lots of pure water. I have the model with the pump because water pressure determines performance.

Countertop Reverse Osmosis Systems

When a permanent installation isn't desired or there isn't enough room to install an RO system under the sink or counter, A Countertop Reverse Osmosis System is an excellent alternative. Easily used near a sink in any location, portable and every bit as effective as a permanently installed system.

This system is ideal for an office, a kitchen too small to accommodate a permanent installation or for apartment living. It's easy to connect by simply attaching the diverter valve to your faucet. Easy to disconnect when you move. The systems curved front and flat back allows you to conserve counter space and is attractive as well.
Water is processed with Omnipure Filters, "the best inline water filters in the world", to reduce sediment down to less than 5 microns; remove chlorine, bad tastes and odors; along with a high quality Reverse Osmosis Membrane to reduce metals, salts and total dissolved solids all followed by a final stage of filtration to polish and enhance the flavor and taste of the water.

Don't worry about living in an apt and not having a hose connector. I had a small RO unit I bought at home depot. They also had the attachments I needed so I could hook it up to my kitchen sink (for under $10). They're the kind of adapters you can use to hook up a washing machine to a sink. Just unscrew the aerater on the faucet and screw on the connector. Every couple of days, I it into a couple 5 gallon buckets for a few hours and then disconnected it and put it away.
