I chuck all mine in a big container and fill it with water and a splash of bleach or H2O2 and mix it up and let it stand for a bit, then rinse it out well, let it dry and chuck is back in with the rest. Lasted me years so far.
I use just h2o2 after i clean the rootballs, works great for everything except that dreaded root aphid. For that you need to flood the rocks entirely with water of temperature 50C or more while putting some sticky stuff on the edges to catch all the ones that are escaping. The aphid sometimes can be eradicated but the trick is in not letting anyone escape and then come back and repopulate.
I always dump it in a strainer bowl and run it under boiling hot water for at least a few minutes, sort of shaking and mixing it up so that all the pebbles get that steaming water running directly over them to kill any nasties still living there after it dries out.
