Hi there maturesmoker,

Thanks for the tips :D I was actually thinking of using 0.4L pots to start and sex then and after that put the females in a 1L final pot but will keep in mind what you said and I'll probably use only the 1L pots.

I'll definitely try the LST or bending, I'm looking forward to it :)

About the clones I cut two, I've one in 24/0 and the other one already in 12/12 just to see how they respond, I don't really need a big yield coz I've got many plants so I'm after learning how to use different methods and enjoy cultivating :) Anyway I'll use mainly seeds, I agree that with such small spaces the cloning is not worthy.

cleaning out the cabinet, so soon? please dont say there is something you HAVE to clean out? please be preventative??!! :)

good points on the 12/12 from seed MS! one thing that has got me wondering though, the topping, or "stall stress" as you put it. in your opinion, with a plant that is 12/12 from seed, do you think most plants would add on enough veg time to their own biological clock to make up for the growth they lost before they let themselves flower?

i ask because I read a thread recently where a fellow did 3 plants, same strain, 12/12 from seed. it was under a 400 or 600 watt hps. but he did one with LST only, one topped, and the other left to grow naturally. he got 30 grams dried from the LST, 21 grams dried from the natural but lost about 8-10 from bud rot he said, and 40 grams dried from the topped plant. i know the light can make up for the stress compared to lower watts, but that is a substantial difference from a "stall stress" technique.

food for thought. here is the link if you want to check it out. https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/325896-cheese-trainwreck-12-12-seed-15.html
Hiya Gumball,

Thanks for posting that link, I just had a skim through it and I’ll read it fully later as it sounds interesting, the kind of experimental grow I like. Its funny that he mentions ‘CerebralVibrator’ and ‘Randy Rocket’ at the top as ‘CV’ was my old username here!!! You will see the same old cab in the threads J As for RR he grew some fine specimens under 12/12 from seed and just used to let them stretch away. He got lanky plants but a good solid dry OZ every time, you can see his colas are nice and big.

I’ll tell you a bit about my 12/12 experiments and grows as a bit of background to this one. Back in 2005 I read a thread on HG420 (now sadly gone) by a Dutch seed breeder ‘Ceres’ showing a 12/12 from seed grow, multi-planted about 12 seeds in a single large bed in heavy clay soil. I was stunned by his results and the clay soil resulted in short plants, no spindly early stretch at all as the seed had to fight its way out of the soil! It seemed to go against everything I had read at that time. So I ran my own experiment based on his methods. I had at that time a large tent with a 600watt HPS so I ran it with 10 seeds of a strain called ‘Tutti –Frutti’ given to me as test seeds by the breeder and I also had a number of just rooted clones ‘Skunk Special’ about another 12 if I recall right, it was quite a fair number to test the theory.

It went well. I had read that 12/12 seed generally produced a much higher ratio of females to males and this was certainly borne out as I got 7 females from 10 from the TF. Overall it went well but yields were not great. I used small pots with just a litre of soil in each. The average came out between just 7 to 10 grams from the clones and around 14 -21 grams from the seedplants. I guess it was more of a SOG grow, no topping or LST at all but given the number of plants the overall yield was satisfying. I was happy.

Later here at RIU I ran more 12/12 from seed grows, this time in larger pots but planted 2 per pot, you can see some of those pics in RR’s ‘12/12 from seed, show off your girls’ thread still. By then I was in this small cab under the CFL’s but I was more than happy with results.

That’s the background to this grow Gumball and my main aim at the moment is to get through it with no sign of those spider mites that destroyed my last 6 months work! So far so good, all clear but I’m keeping a tight cleaning regime going trying to wash everything down once a week if possible.

I’ll go and check out your thread, as V12 often refers to it.

Finally here’s a couple of pics of my SW taken this morning. I’ve been out with the dog at low tide and collected some nice fishy bits and seaweeds etc which are now bubbling away in a 2litre bottle. I expect her to show pre flowers shortly, maybe another week or so.

collecting your fertilizer from outside, don't you tak a risk of bringing in pathogens and possibly insect eggs or something?

Never had an issue, I just take a small bag and at low tide pick seaweeds etc from the waters edge. Ive also used fish tank water in the past, full of goodness :-) Some of the healthiest plants i have grown were by this method, which is why I'm going back to it again.

jjmd, I hope to add a new seed every 3 weeks this time.

Hey Mature, I believe that at times you place your babies outside to enjoy the sun light? could you be getting your bug issues from your backyard?

Hi jjmd, Yes you are right, but this grow the plants will not move outside the cabinet! I'm taking no chances :-)

What about the window sill, would that extra light be beneficial without the risk? Good call though, really too much risk outside!

I think I'll just stick with the cabinet start to finish this time Gumball :-) Its great to see totally clean unmarked leaf again, it really is!

Got some feminised Master Kush seeds on order from P&M, should be here next couple of days so I'll start one straight away. Funny to be growing from seed again, they really do develop fast and I'm loving seeing it. If all goes according to plan I also want to get some in Northern Lights going later.

Iv'e been thinking about how to control growth this grow. I have decided to simply pinch and bend the main top when the time is right, no ties this time. That way I think I could fit 4 plants in my little cab .

I'll have another pic of the SW tomorrow.

Cheers SB. I hope to fit one NL in there shortly.

Hiya Bigman, thanks for the comments. I felt like giving it all up to be honest and just buying it!!!!!! But I'm pleased so far that all is clear of those mites at last.

wow MS that was a very informative read :) loved it so im going to go with 12/12 from seed this time aswell, lovely choice of strain there :) awesome that we are growing the same strain.

Like i mentioned in the pm are you gonna do the kush in "neat" westlands advanced? the stuff i have used the last two grow was westlands advanced plus so dont know if that would be better, or maybe it only comes in the plus form? was what you used in the past the plus version?

and good idea with not taking your plants outside to prevent any infestation keep them all wrapped up indoors!!

anyway everything sounds spot on look forward to seeing your cab fill up again

+rep if it lets me

(19th August.)

Hi mate :-)

Heres my Snow White baby, she growing fast. Lost track of dates but she not yet showing preflowers under 12/12 from seed. Wont be long now though.

I got my Master Kush seeds this morning and 2 are already soaking. I'm still hoping to fit a NL in there too in a week or so. Tamjam, can you show me the soil you are using please? Took a pic of the one I have just used up and I want to get the same one as you for the Kush, and I'll go with no perlite this time. In these small pots I feel that I have total control over those roots, I made a couple of small holes about 2" from the bottom so at any time I can slip off the cover and poke my finger in there to test it!

On a side note I got a load of unwanted apples and there's loads on our little tree in the garden just starting to fall so I'm going to have a try at making some cider :-) Been reading up on it and have got a DIY press sorted. I've always wanted to try it. Anyone got any advice?

Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement with this grow :-)

Looks real good MS! I like the hole to check the roots and moisture, good idea! That cider sounds pretty tasty. How long does it have to ferment?

I'm still reading up Gumball but about 48hours fermentation in a bucket followed by racking off then another 3 weeks in the demi-jar. I'm not sure what apples I have here but I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Yep!

I just this minute cut these leafy little sparklers from the single plant that has been revegging in the garden, a Snow White mutant :-) Shes showing new growth around the stem now so I can remove the bits I left on at harvest. Shes planted straight in the earth and I know this is quality soil, and organic as no chemicals have been used in this garden for over 5 years.

Wont be much, but a nice little bonus :-) I'll get snaps of the plant itself once she vegging nicely.

no thats the wrong stuff mate, this is the stuff im using i got it from B&Q both times but only ever saw about 5 there at a time they never had a massive pallet load. Im sure most garden centers will stock it :)

congrats on the new beans and the snowwhite is looking good :) look forward to seeing some pistels. and what a bonus with them fresh buds i bet they are gonna be good :) im only about 6 weeks away from more mutant

how old is that apple tree by the way? i planted two a year ago that were already two years old so cant wait until they start growing some big fat apples like that.
