Hey guys, I have a question about reservoir problems. I have one of my girls in a 5-gal DWC res going on week 7 of vegging. I'm using tap water with starting ph of 6.0, ppm of 25. Strain is Northern Lights, nutes/additives are:
GH Flora series - 1 tsp/gal
GH CaliMagic - .5tsp/gal
Botanicare Hydrogaurd - .5tsp/gal
I'm running at least 1.3w of air per gallon, my res temp sits around 70-72f, ambient temp bounces from 65-80f between night/day. Humidity ranges from 50-60%, and I'm using sterilite tubs wrapped in panda film for lightproofing. I change the res once a week and scrub tubs/lines/airstones with white vinegar when I do.
Two days ago the airline feeding this tub failed and the plant sat un-aerated overnight, 12 hours at least if not more. When I first checked the res it STANK. Like kale that's gone bad. ph was 6.8, from 5.8 the afternoon before.
Looking at my roots, they were still white and healthy looking and not slimy to the touch. But they smelled like death. I changed out the water in the tub, scrubbed the res, lines and stones down with vinegar, and rinsed my roots with plain tap water water until they smelled happy. I didn't use any sterilizing solution or h202.
After sitting overnight my res stinks just as bad as it did yesterday, and my ph is again sitting at 6.7. Which brings me to my question: What's the best way to clean roots in system that runs bennies? Right now there doesn't appear to be any obvious root rot but it smells like it's coming.
What would you do to protect your roots?
