I was told to keep it in the 65f-68f range and to never have it in the 70s. What happens when you keep warm res temps?

65-68? 68 is cold enough. You can move into the 70's and still be fine. Exceeding 75 for prolonged periods can cause rot/slime.

65-68 is perfect, and exactly where i keep mine. warmer temps invite things to develope that you dont want. adding a beneficial to the res is also a great preventer and a huge root developer.

You start getting slime because bacteria are able to start proliferating in the warmer water 75+F. And if you use spray nozzles this can stop them up prematurely. Pretty sure that higher water temperature also causes more pH fluctuation as well. And much less oxygen is available to roots the warmer the water.

Are you having any trouble with root rot at all or are your roots super healthy white do you know? It looks to me like Pythium....stem rot or in this case petiole rot. Could be caused by warmer water temperature or not enough oxygen in the water. You might try a couple tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide 3% per gallon in your rez water. And make sure you got plenty of oxygenation going on.

Well I actually I had this problem last summer when I was trying to do a DWC run. Big mistake in the summer heat without a water chiller. Right now I am just trying to learn from my mistakes I made. I appreciate your answer bro, great info!!!!

Peace

That right there is the same problem I have with hydro bro. Summer heat makes it to hot to run, so I gotta wait til about October to start hydro up and can run it til about March. I moved last year to a smaller house so I can't have my grow tent inside. Therefore it is in my carport which makes it a real pain in the ass to keep cool....no way I could afford a water chiller to keep the rez water cool plus air conditioning for the plants, lol that would be an extra 1000watts or more just for cooling.
