Removing the glass from an air cooled hood

Ok so i was talking with an old friend today that was telling me that i should remove the glass from my hood to increase lumens and efficiency of the bulb.

i was kinda thrown back by this as ive just kinda gotten my environment at a level where i know the temps are constant and its kinda on auto pilot. but i did some lite research (pun not intended i promise) and found that some people have reported much better yields and even put up arguments that you may be actually saving money.

now obviously i want to get the most out of my harvest but what can i expect my temp increases to be....im venting my tent into the room it is in (which is AC'ed ) and im getting constant temps between 77 and 84...im worried that i with my 1k watt light in my tent, the heat will build up to much with out the bulb being cooled. i could be completely wrong as the way im doing it now is the only way ive ever done it.

im less than 2 weeks into my grow and i want to get things like this settled before to many more days go by....so please what are your thoughts.

HMMM my thoughts are IMHO if heat is an issue or you just like an air-cooled reflector leave the glass on. Removing it will only let heat back into the grow environment. Other than that I do not see the difference on or off.

im really impartial about it all right now cause i have no prior experience.
so i was told that you should take it off because not only will the glass shielding kills 10 percent of the lumen out put but then on top of the that due to the bulb not getting to proper operating temperatures ( because of the cooling) it will also kill a certain percent. the actual number i was told could be close to 30 percent of lumen reduction with glass on and air cooled...

now i would totally prefer to leave it as it is cause im comfortable with my set up right now and i know that i will definitely produce buds with a 1k watt HPS regardless of if the glass is there or not. but...with that being said. i still want to make my set up as efficient as possible and if i can get more weight and better resin production then why not...im just not sure of the exact science behind it..
and if it really is actually worth me at least testing out to see how the temps would be...i still have time to play with that kind of thing right? at least for the next few days...i dont know...its like every time i think im settled i learn something new that i could be improving on...its not a bad thing but i just want to watch my babies grow instead of fussing with these things haha...guess you cant have your cake and eat it too.

Glass definitely cuts down some light, I'd take mine off if I could get away with the heat but I can't..the low iron glass is almost invisible but its pricey.

Well, I am no scientist myself and do not claim to know a lot about lumens, light refraction, etc. But, I have to say I doubt the glass on an air cooled reflector is going to decrease light output by 30%. I mean, it is glass right? But hey, I could be wrong...waiting for others opinions on this one

thats what i thought aswell...its glass it should be that much of a reduction.

found this...maybe ive found the answer with science
and he literally said "i can have my cake and eat it tooo!!!!"

so 5 percent increase with out the glass .... just making sure its clean is the key here....

i would still like others to chime in with personal experience but for now i think im going to leave it and just clean it EVERY DAY hahah
