Removing chlorophyl update

So awhile ago I asked how to take the green/chlorophyl out of an alcohol extract.
Didnt get a whole lot of feedback.
Anyways I did a little research and experimenting.
So I first used charcoal as I read charcoal would take out the chlorophyl, but then couldnt filter the charcoal out and the solution was black.
Apparently it needs some expensive filtering process...or not.
Diatomaceous earth.
Mixed the green dragon with charcoal powder, shook it, used my buchner funnel and loaded it with diatomaceous earth, poured the charcoal slurry through it, and it came out clean
The material had already been blasted with butane so I'm not looking for huge returns, and the filter media will definitkey hold a lot of material, but it totally works.

Dry-packing 3:1 by volume DE:carbon on a thin layer of pure DE, and then pouring my solution through, worked for me.

If you use t5 clay as a filter to blast through it will come out clear

Look it up it’s called color remediation. I blast and I make it as clear as I want

Do I want neutral or acidified?

Clear means not turbid. That’s why I ask about color. A nice Pinot is clear and red. That’s why ACS uses “clear and colorless” to describe, say, pure water.

So this stuff filtered through the DE is looking like cloudy water.
I'm wondering if there is any THC in there at all? It did it get filtered out? Even pure distillate is still gold colored

The cannabinoids aren't what adds color to a concentrate.

The test of the pudding is to evaporate away a sample of your extract solution and see what's left.

There is a group on face book called the extract craft users group. Even if you don't have their machine that group has all the information you will ever need to know about alcohol extraction.

Back before I started utilizing
minus -60f Ethanol (Ever Clear generic) & Dry Ice in a food cooler extraction for Hash oil,,((Ethanol, which is polar, if kept at extremely cold temperatures, will pick up far less fats, lipids, and waxes in the primary extraction, thus making it not as necessary to do this process. The issue is doing this correctly. “-60f I prefer”))

I was doing some room temp as well as chilled Freezer extractions. Those had Chlorophyll, fatty acids, waxes everything, but the kitchen sink.
Regardless just put your green liquid in the Sun for about 20 Min till it turns brown (no u won’t degrade your Thc), what’s left of the Chlorophyll is brown spent matter so just Winterize it & pour liquid thru 25u filter.
(coffee, bubble bag, any 25u)!

(I didn’t get into all the excess filtering just used Freezer @ lowest setting & tall glass jar
& left in there for 3 days...

Wow that really is unusually light colored. Supercooled alcohol extraction appears to be a major improvement, though inconvenient unless you own a lab freezer.

Something I'm trying next is extracting fresh bud that was stuffed into a gallon spring water jug with the bottom cut off, as the column, and then frozen up. So far I'm at the stuffed in and put in the freezer stage. How much can be stuffed in there? I got an amount that would be about half a pound dried. Normally I get about a whole pound of dried material in there so it's right about half as much when it's fresh. I just pushed it down fairly hard but not enough to burst plant cells.

I'm trying this because it seems to me that the drying process degrades the resin significantly, and cutting that part out should make a much better product. Also with dry material some alcohol absorbs into it, but since fresh material is already full of water I'm hoping that the alcohol won't be able to soak in. Drying is also slow, smelly and time consuming so might as well just cut it out completely. Much easier just to cut, stuff and freeze, nice and compact, quick and non-smelly. The mistake that others have made when trying to extract fresh and frozen material is they didn't stuff it down into the column while fresh so it's compact enough to be practical. As I said, it's only twice the volume of dried when both are stuffed into a column.

Hi Bob... sounds like an interesting process,... as far as super cold for me that’s around -60 F, easily achieved using 10 pounds of dry ice placed over the herb and ethanol jars on a screen to allow the downward sublimination... takes me about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to get there. But the catch for me is I only run 2 or 3 ounces per batch...your using quite a bit of herb...
someday I will try fresh frozen herb like you, but will still pull it down to -60 F after I pull it out of the freezer & into cooler with dry ice.
(The end result at that temperature is a very pure oil, it vapes without any
additives )

i’d probably just cover my large Pyrex plate with cheese cloth and let it dry naturally...
at that point I would scrape up the oil after heating it slightly & move it to my storage jar... i’d probably still put it on the coffee warmer just to make sure there was no micro bubbles (H2O)???

I just did the drip. What happened was that I left the column/jug sitting in there for a few hours to drip out and ice had formed in the solution, it was like making apple jack, you could pour the alcohol off and the ice was left behind. However, the way I do it is to precipitate the resin out by adding water and salt, with a pinch of citric acid to reduce degradation, so the ice didn't matter. Then it's letting it sit in the fridge for a few days, takes a long time to drop out, then putting it in the freezer until it gets close to solid so I can pour the water off easily. Then it needs washing with fresh water and finally drying. It's at the sitting in the fridge stage now. It looked quite light and smelled very nice, like fresh buds.

I found out why there was a bunch of ice, I bought 70% iso instead of 99% by mistake. That's why it seemed kind of thick pouring out, almost syrupy. Oh well, seems to have worked anyway.

Turned out great. Most of it drops out after a day and I leave the poured off liquid to settle out longer in the fridge in another glass container, can get a few grams more. It wasn't green at all, very light maple fudge type color, and the aroma was the best yet. Drying weed definitely reduces quality, how could it not really? I'll just cut that part out completely from now on. This is easier and better all around.

Well u certainly leave me inspired to run fresh frozen for the 1st time...
(& deep cold -60 dry ice QWET ), with my next grow...
((also probably buy a T stat controlled hot plate 110f to finalize H2O/alcohol removal & keep those terps for C cell vaping, but I’ll also be sure to let 1/2 evaporate naturally
for my glass honey straw)).

You're quite an artisan. I've never made bubble hash myself, just never bought a kit, didn't think I would get much yield and they were costly. I wish you well in your endeavors, you seem to be making good progress so far.

Actually, me living in a legalized nation, Canada, I'm actually getting sick of cannabis, literally, I smoked so much daily that I got some kind of infection, which is usually what motivates me to quit, until the next time. It seems to make me vulnerable to bacterial infections, in my lungs mostly. Inhaling cannabis resin vapor just can't be good for lungs anyway, even if I didn't get infections. Maybe I have some sort of "lipoid pneumonia". One of the symptoms can be coughing up blood, and I've definitely had that happen from smoking extracts regularly. Resin isn't a lipid but there may be some in there as an impurity. I think I'm going to just quit permanently, at least smoking it. Eating it doesn't have any bad effects that I know of. I've been off it for a few days now and actually feel a lot better, and not hungry all the time so I may be able to get my belly back down. I have weed belly right now.

I smoked all the time in 70s & early 80s(12-23age), then into a career & business traveling...never had a problem, BUT... we did not have 20-22-24-50-70-90 % Thc products either, just a lot of Mex/Col., some Hash & occasionally Hash oil...
I look at what my Niece does now & I’m like...WTF dab dab dab & more Rosin etc...
At 60 I just like my Hash & Oil all home made legally MO USA. But I’m not a daily smoker...had a heavy smoker over several months ago broke out all the goodies & 4 hrs later I couldn’t get any more lifted & actually didn’t really even enjoy it as much...(that is without eating my oil in a gelatin capsule, which I like occasionall).
So yes good for you, cut back & enjoy the buzz more.
A friend who prefers herb bgt a herb vape pin & says its 100% better on his lungs during & the next day...
As far as bubble Hash goes I don’t even bother with all my bags any more ( I had the 5 bag kit, but bgt some more 24/160u for dry sift) ... I Just use a
160&25u micron bag for bubble hash & a little 25u drying screen doubled over with the kief in it, I press with paper towels to remove excess water before the dry.
I’ll use the 73u bag for a fast Ethanol drain when making -60f dry ice oil wash, then 25u...

Weed belly never heard that one before (I guess that’s like when I eat a whole box of FruitLoops cereal & 1/2 gal of milk at midnight...& still have the Munchies. Sometimes I have to barricade the kitchen!!!
