The answer is basically yes
Reggie for all intents and purposes is just ditch weed, or weed that is cultivated outside, with minimal attention or nurturing, most often in large groups. So think about it this way. You have an unknown strain that is growing in one or more ways:
Poor soil
Adverse weather
Possible deficiencies
Rampant unchecked pests
Unregulated breeding which draws plant resources from fruit production
Taking that same strain and putting it in a controlled enviroment, it no longer has to survive, it can just grow. You control growing medium and nutrients, if you are doing a proper job, the plant no longer has to struggle against adverse weather or repair itself against pests. With proper attention, you can spot males and regulate pollen spread, so your females can fully concentrate on fruit production. With enough knowledge and nurturing, you can take nearly ANY "reggie" seed and produce a better end product. Otherwise, your bag wouldnt be cheap would it?
That being said, genetics will play a critical role here, and place limits on how far you can take your plant, much like professional body builders will eventually plateau on muscle production (and turn to steroids to push past their natural genetic limits). Whether or not you want to start with mystery beans or go professional is entirely up to you and what you are looking for in your grow. If you feel that you have the time and resources to spare, and arent as concerned with growing "tha dankest 420 blazit nugs" then pop a couple of beans and give it a shot. If you are pressed for time and resources and need the biggest bang for your buck, then go professional (ive heard good things about herbies seeds shipping to the states).
Another way to look at it is experience if you are new to plant cultivating. Practice on what is ready and available to you now, when you are comfortable with your process and equipment, THEN pop those 10$ a pc beans that MAY or MAY NOT make it your way. That is definately a limited resource.
As a final thought, where do you think professional seeds began? One lucky guy diddnt just stumble into a mystical garden of weeden, where northern lights and OG Kush frollic together in lolipop grove. All professional strains have their roots in "ditch weed", wild strains which were selectively bred based on desireable traits. One other poster said it first, pop a handfull of mystery beans and you will be suprised at the genetic variety you will find. Maybe you do this and realize that "wow, this plant is short and bushy, but prone to disease, and this one is potent and resistant to disease" and you are on your way to customizing your own strain of cannabis completely unique to the world. Maybe one day you have your own professional genetics that you can call your own and distribute. It ultimately comes down to what you are looking for in your grow, have fun and good luck!
