I want to get the most out of my 400w veg CMH. I know 3x3 is ideal coverage for a 400, but I have CFLs I can supplement with if needed. Air cooled 6" preferable. Are there adjustable angle hoods to customize coverage?! I need something that can be 12-18" away with a 3x3 coverage. Thnx in advance.

Use a reflector wing. The Jupiter or Econo wing. Discount hydro and growers house has the best deals. I used that for flower with CMH and covered a 4x3 prior to switching to vertical bare bulb.

use a wing If you are using Philips. Any other brand get a cool tube with a wing on amazon or htg's eBay store .

Thnx for response. I'm using an adjustable wing now. Don't hoods reflect better than tubes?
with a 400 you might be right. You don't want to spread the light too much. A couple of my friends rock all cool tubes. They run 600's and 1000's. The cool tubes with wings work much better than the hoods they had before with their lights. If you vent a cool tube. You want to have speed controller for the fan too. If the bulb cools too much (below operating temp) it can cut around 10% spectral output. Having glass does that too.

I like the hoods that you can have the option of removing glass if wanted during fall/winter. I always have to do a ton of research before buying anything. I'm anal about reflection and don't mind spending the $ if I have to. No point in having good bulbs and not getting the most out of em. I'm going look into cool tubes. Just more research damn it lol.

that's why I switched to vertical bare bulb growing. I grew 8 plants 5 feet tall. With a CMH hanging in the middle. When I get new ones I will be doing it again. Right now they are under 2 borrowed t5's. Within a week or 2 I should have everything back up and running. Like I used too over a month ago.

Square reflectors are almost always better than tubes.
I did a side by side with my set up and it wasn't even close.

My magnum xxl vs my cooltube, magnum kills it everywhere but price. I love my big hoods, put them 18 inches away, 10 plants will be plenty happy in a 6x6 area w a 600 .
