Red stems

Whats up guys? I have a skunk automatic from white label on day 39 from breaking soil. Its in a 30"x18"x36" mylar tent. 2, 4 inch personal fans (one intake and one exhaust) for ventilation. I have it in a 3gal pot with McEnroe organic potting soil mixed with about 40% perlite and roughly a 6" layer of an organic "super soil" called Recipe 420 from E.B stone at the bottom of my pot. Im using 8 cfls, 5 23w 2700k and 3 42w 2700k. All the leaves are a nice deep green and the buds are growing in beautifully. She is lstd and i have been playing around with her (pulling her shoots and top lower as the grow larger) but stopped since the calyxes began to swell. The tops of the stems for the fan leaves and shoots are turning red. A couple of the fan leaves almost look like they are bleeding. I didnt feed her any veg nutes then just fed her tiger bloom at qtr strength a few days ago then gave plain well water today. I plan on only using tiger bloom and big bloom figuring the soil mix would get me thru veg. I have done alot of research about the red stems and found a million different reasons. P def, stress, heat, strain dependent, cal/mag def, overfert, underfert (just to name a few) also theres random holes and tears in a couple leaves but ive kept my eye open for little mites nd shit under my leaves and what not but havent seen any, although i did find one jacked ass ant in there last week, seriously tho this ant was huge. Just wondering what ur guys take is on my current situation, hoping i could narrow it down a bit, thank for your input its much appreciated!

Those leaves are sinks, it is where the plant stores its food for winter, it is nothing to worry about !!! As you get closer to the end those leaves will start to yellow as the plant uses them for the N that you plan on holding back. Plant looks good, enjoy your harvest !!!

Thanks for the input! I have some blood meal i could sprinkle on i just dont wanna over do it with N, the nutrients im using have a low % of N in them and with auto's less is always more. I wasnt too concerned about it just got a little curious as to what it could be as i was researching online. And thanks shes definitely lookin beautiful im happy so far.

Careful with the N during flower. While N is certainly necessary for all stages of growth and abundant lush, green leaves are ALWAYS beneficial, too much during flower can actually inhibit the uptake of P. What I've been doing to remedy red petioles, etc, is to add a bloom fertilizer in increasingly larger doses. My plant has yet to show signs of burn and the red has began to fade. Best wishes. :peace:

I feed veg nutes all the thru and never have a problem, plants in containers actually use very little P, my 20-10-20 works awesome and cost $11

the plants build sinks (non red leaves are sources) based on the nutes available, if you get good at readin em it can tell you when to up the food

usually red stems on the bottom of the plant (or anywhere shaded) is just a sign that the fan leaves are older and ready to give up the energy stored within, when the time comes (translocation)

Thanks for all the replys guys i really appreciate it! I didnt add big bloom to the water when i fed, thought i was only supposed to give it to my plant on the last 2 feeds to extend flowering?

Red stems are either genetic or nute deficiency. I push nitrogen through harvest with zero affect on yield. Lot of bad info on the web and this forum.

I like the green in your plant, keep it there to harvest and you will be fine.

Yea i only fed one time at 1/4 strength, one blade leaf began to yellow so i assumed she was getting a little hungry, ill hold off on feeding until yellowing worsens. I appreciate all the help guys! Happy harvests!

Couldn't agree more. Lush, green leaves all the way through are the way to go. This also happens to be supported by general botany. There is clearly something going on there though, genetic or otherwise. However, If you start dropping in too much blood meal, N guano, fish fertilizer or what have you then you end up with a toxicity and inhibition of P. What is your pH? Anything under 6.5 or over 7.5 (not relevant for mj) will favor N over P as well. :peace:
