Red Snake (Oaxaca '79 x Colombian Punto Rojo)

I was lucky to get some seeds from this strain a couple of years ago. The people that made them didn't offer them through the seedbank they used to work for (Cannabiogen), but fortunately some seeds were running around. I planted about a dozen and selected males and females, and I made a bunch of seeds. I still keep my favorite mom and the male I used to pollinate her.

The effect is very uplifting, and the taste is very good. It smells a lot like cedar and aromatic wood oils, a very old school aroma. I love these tropical sativas, although they are a pain in the ass to grow, they need their time and don't produce as much as a cash crop. I estimate about 12 weeks of 12/12, November if grown outdoors.

This one is very branchy, as a consequence of the Punto Rojo heritage. I put them both to flower some days ago, I expect we will have some nice pictures in a couple of weeks.

Lots of people wish they had that strain. Maybe Charlie will resurface and drop these and other lines.

!2 weeks is much shorter than I expected. I run hybrids often that go 12 weeks. That is very manageable.

These are a couple of Red Snakes 6 weeks after flip. Slow and tall (1.5 meter including the 3l pot) but very aromatic. I love the very characteristic cedar smell, I guess Punto Rojo influences a lot the structure of the plant and also both the flavor and effect of the finished bud. I have a Mextiza also with 6 weeks and looks near done.

I suppose they will be mature with 6 more weeks before harvest. I'll try to have spider mites under control this time. I reduced the daylenght and feeding strength to avoid revegging this time.

These are a couple of Red Snakes. The fight against spider mites has been successfull, as I can see. First one, after 8 weeks 12/12, full of glandes and getting meaty. Nice smell and lots of buds. Probably ready in 10 weeks.

The second of these plants I keep in the flowering room, making seeds of this fantastic strain to extend its realm. This one has been flowering for just 4 weeks and impregnated just a week ago.

I decided to harvest this Red Snake at 9 weeks. I believe this is the first one I get to flower properly, I had problems with others while joining diet and light hours with other strains. This one behaves like a picky motherfucker, I think that fickle is the word. Still, flavor and effect pay for it. I believe Mextiza, not being easy at all, is much easier to grow although they are very related.

I had the good luck to have already grown some seeds before they started to sell it, but since this is a very promising strain (great flavor, great effect) I want to look for another keeper. The one I have leans a lot to the Punto Rojo, with very very little size trichomes (but many of them) and a crazy sativa structure, and I hope to find a Oaxaca '79 pheno, faster and maybe tastier, if it is even possible.

Looks like about 20 out of 22 sprouted. I'll keep you guys informed.

Three weeks since I put them on soil. They didn't start very well, I think there could be some issue in the tap water. Other than that, I see quite a lot of variation.

Red Snakes are the ones in the upper part. The others are ACE's Bangi Haze x Ethiopian.

Repotting time. This seedbed is too little for them now. They grow fast. A couple of runt/ugly specimens but 90% of plants look good.

There they are these thin and sneaky snakes. They are happily growing in their corner. They are very light green and they are growing very fast. Some of them show red stems. Don't seem to branch much yet, but I've just topped them, so that'll change and it will be easier to control height and take some cuts.

They are stretching. I believe they need some more food, I've been giving them half strength food but I'll change that. Some diversity and generally red stems and very pale leaves.

The branchy one.

They are still very pale green, and stretchy. I've sexed just a couple, but I put them into the definitive pots and I've started flowering them. In some days I'll take cuts.
