Recommendations, please: 600w - 1000w LED lights

I understand that 'optimal' wattage for a tent is about 100w per square foot, yes? I'm just about to wrap up my current grow and want to improve my lighting in the tent during the next cycle. Some background...

1. Current tent is 4X4X7, so that's 16sqf of floor space.
2. Current light is a 600w MS/HPS, which has done fine, but is obviously underpowered.
3. I'm looking to add an LED to kick up total wattage for the tent into the 1200-1600w range, which is more in line with the 'optima' rating.
4. I'm also looking to kick in an LED so that the flowering ladies get a fuller spectrum than HPS alone. Expectation is that the LED will increase quality while the HPS will handle yield.

With all of that, please hit me with your purchase recommendation for an LED in the 600-1000w range. Thanks!

Question for folks running both MS/HPS and LED: Any issues (other than electrical bill and heat) about running them both during veg?

go green, johnson, platinum, kind, amare, hydrogrow
your gonna pay like 1000 or more for an led that high in wattage if you want a quality one

Here's the deal with LED. You really have to buy for what you want. 3W or 5W chips. Or if you dare CREE 10W. I have a 5x5 with two advance platinum P300 from amazon, and 1 250W cfl right in the middle. Perpetual grow, straight clones from dispensary straight into flower. I add 2 plants every friday and harvest two plants every friday. I use 3W chips because that's what works for me. Good LED brands, Advance Platinum, KIND, AREA 51, California Light Works. There's others but those are the ones i've seen used or used.

I've got 3 300 watt LEDs I've used for flower and I've gotten good results. Recently added a 400 watt HPS to my setup so now running that and 2x300 watts for a total 1000 watts in the same size tent you have. Im not Even 2 weeks into 12/12 and can already see how much the ladies are gonna love that mixed spectrum this grow. I think you've got the right idea checking for LEDs. While I would say don't get the cheapest you see, you can get decent LEDs off eBay directly from the manufacturer...I wouldn't buy one directly from China tho lol.

The "white" led is all the rant and rave nowadays. AREA 51 makes a sweet white panel but they only make 75w models which are always sold out, i'd have to daisy chain 20 of them together.

I need a solution for summer months because it gets expensive to cool HID. Where I live it gets to 90F in the summer so I run C02. The grow room is 19 x 15 feet.. With 4 of your lights what would I expect to yield if I am currently approx 1lb for 1000 watts?

where is the savings in the led so damn costly initial set up . can get 1 good 1000 watt hps and hood and digital ballast for about 220 solis teck ballast hortilux super hps and choice of hood cool tube or standard . get great results . what is the par of these led lights ?

The savings are two fold, first the lights consume about half the electricity of HIDs, then you also save money on A/C as you are producing half the heat. So you are looking at saving >50% on your electric bill. Depending on where you live and your electricity rate you can expect the lights to break even after about 1.5 years. You also save money not having to replace bulbs.

People commonly get around 1 gram per watt, you can expect to get about 800 grams from 4 lights with half the electricity and half the heat. Others have gotten more than 1g/watt but I'm comfortable with that claim.

Wow that's a really big claim. 1gram per watt really comes down the to grower. Now if someone is saying they get a lb of a 1k bulb, I very much doubt they are magically going to be pulling 1 gpw using your lights, well not until their experience increases.

if I run a 1000 watt at 12/12 it cost me 90 bucks with the cooling a month . so that' will take me 22 months to get into saving . Iincluding 4 hps lamp changes . hortilux 1000 watt bulbs . then in 22 months my electric bill would be about 45 a month using this led with no cooling .I cant see it running that much cooler then an air cooled hps . if the hps is vented properly .

4 of those go green lights in a 4x4 would BUMP. 800w of evenly spread LED would solidly outperform a 1,000 single ended bulb. And the heat is way more manageable. I'm running 2 of the gogreen 300w units in a 3.5'x3.5' and the girls love it. They are taking all the water I can throw at them. I replaced a 600w hps with these, and could never go back.

where would you suggest buying at a good price? Amazon? I refuse to buy most of my stuff at any of these overpriced hydro shops.

I agree 100%. I run three 600w HPS and I love em

I like everything about these new COB setups except the price of 'em. That's just out of a lot of peoples price range.
They'll come down as the technology becomes more commonplace.

I agree - the price is sick.. they are lights. $400 plus each. yipes.


At that price I will have to stick with what's proven and when I start seeing the world all agreeing there is nothing better then maybe I will go that way

Right now I am stuck between t5's and HID's for my 5 x 5 tent - the HID's sure seem like they will be less maintenance. But the heat......
