Recommendations for grow type in 4x4 tent with 600 watts

Hi all,

I'm doing my second grow soon and I have purchased everything I need for a 4x4 tent setup with 600 watts MH for veg and HPS for flower.

I will be doing a soil grow using the whole Fox Farm nute lineup and Ocean Forest soil. Until now, I have been thinking of doing 9-10 plants in 5 gal airpots, and just fim'ing and defoliating to maximize yield, but now I am rethinking this strategy. I have read that I can get better yields if I do something like 15-18 plants in 2 gal growbags and use some LST to control height.

What do you all think? Would love to hear some more experienced greenthumbs weigh in.

you growing from seed or from clone? if from seed I run 4 plants in 7-10 gal hard pots with an 8 week veg. if from clone I run plants in 5 gal hard pots with minimal training. I have been able to yield over 12oz in a 4x4 tent with a 600 using either method.

I am growing from seed only. No clones available in my area :( I feel like 7-10 gal is excessive for a small space like that, won't it get too big/tall? What is minimal training? Are you doing scrog or anything?

I hope I'll be able to yield at least a pound of dry bud, is that unrealistic?

big pots are the shit, more roots means more fruits. pulling a full pound from a 600w light is a stretch, especially from seed. using a proven high yielding clone that you have made a few runs with to dial in maybe, but with seeds you never know 100% what your gonna get.

by minimal training I mean topped and thats about it. I tried a scrog once and it was a pain in the ass to trim and didnt yield any better than just lst and a little extra veg time. all things considered I prefer growing fewer larger plants but I have 2 bud areas plus a dedicated veg area so veg time is of concern.

and when I say that that sort of yield is more likely with clones I dont mean to say clones will always yield more than seed plants, but a pound from a 600w light will only happen if you have every last tiny detail nailed down, and that really only happens with many years of experience or several runs with the same cut. and not having cpones available locally is no excuse, select a good seed mother and clone the shit out of her

Ya I'm thinking I'll go with the 3 gallon airpots (5 gallon equivalent) to save space. After the first grow I'll start to experiment with different variables like bigger pots and clones.

Anyone else have some experiences to share from a 4x4 ft 600 watt grow tent?

Hey Bluntz,

I built a 4x4 veg room as well. I decided to go with 11 plants in 3 gal buckets and am LST'ing and will start topping as they veg a bit longer. Check out my grow journal in the sig. I'm using 1000W MH, but I think a 600W would still do the trick just fine. Depending on strains, I am confident you would pull at minimum 2oz. off each. That's a lb and a half. :bigjoint:
Obviously other factors such as nutes, grow medium, climate, and genetics will make that 2 oz/plant decrease or increase .

Let us know what you choose to do and if you will have a journal mate. Good Luck!

im a 4x4x6.5 tent grower w/600w light. 1st run (from seed) 7 plants in 3 gal pots netted me 17.65zips. I just chopped yesterday (from clone) from 6 plants in 5 gal pots, hoping for 1.5lbs plus. next cycle (from clone) will be 5 plants in 5 gal pots. I veg for 8-10 weeks as im still working on my timing. I grow in FFOF amended soil and use technaflora recipe for success nutes. I lollipop, FIM, and supercrop thru veg.

Oh wow you guys are getting great results...I hope I'll be able to come close on my first run with this new setup! I will absolutely have a grow journal but not starting the grow for another month - I'm moving and waiting to get into the new place where I'll have one room dedicated to this.

The strain I wanted to choose initially was Super Silver Haze by Mr Nice Seeds, but I decided against it since it's a sativa dominant strain and I know it will be more difficult and take longer. So for the first time, I think I will decide to go with Nirvana Seeds Bubblelicious. I've read great reviews and it's Indica dominant.

BTW anyone ever consider growing upside down plants? :) http://www.howcast.com/videos/415572-How-to-Grow-Vegetables-Upside-Down

I grew under a 600W 4 plants in 5 gallon pots in a 5X5 room my first indoor grow. But they would have fit in a 4X4. You can see how I trained them and how they turned out in my Spring Grow in my sig. Zip to post 101 to see how they ended up.

Good Luck - AIM

Thanks for your input! Great looking plants but sorry to see your thread got derailed by trolling. What was the final weigh-in of all four plants? Any pics of the final product?
