You mean i a meter to read your waters ph?

Get one off Ebay, in the $50-80 range, if you can. I went with a Milwaukee $30 model, and don't really care for it. It doesn't hold calibration too well.

Any more thoughts? I'm on a tight budget so I'm tempted to go with the $3.99 one that Bay posted.

I've only 7 plants so it's not like it has to last a long time or something... and I'll have a job soon (hopefully)

Do I need a reader for both soil AND water?

Well, I mean..... will that $19.99 one not work? I mean...... like I said I'll have a job soon. I don't care if it stops working in 3 months I just need it NOW and I need it to be accurate.

In all honesty? I recommend simple litmus strips. Digital Ph meters are all good n that, but most are stored for years in warehouses and need calibration to be accurate and calibration can be a hassle. And then theres the solar paneled 3-in-1 meters you see on eBay, they are complete crap and most of them the ph reading doesnt work. Not to mention litmus strips are cheap as chips.

calibration is simple and those strips aren't very accurate..... Also I'm sure they are NOT stored for years if so these companies wouldn't make any money.

Do those work in both water and dirt? Are they accurate?

I looked them up on ebay, 160 for like 4 bucks lol. Definitely my style.

They work in liquid but i doubt dirt, they may not be hugely accurate but they are accurate enough to get the job done for measuring liquid.For me calibrating my digital ph meter was annoying because the room had to be in a certain temperature or the ph calibrating liquid wouldnt be the correct ph level for calibrating, i think it was boron somethin

Calibration is adjusting the meter so that you know your ph is dead on, on most digital meters basically what you do is dip the end of your meter in the fluid and adjust your meter (simple as turning a screw) until it is at 7.0, On the meter I own all you do is dip the meter in the fluid and push a button and it automatically calibrates it. I wouldn't worry about a meter for your soil, just worry about what your putting in your soil. i.e. food and water......

Don't worry about your dirt, your waters ph will determine your soils ph most of the time.... I have had a ph tester for dirt for years and probably have used it like 4 times. But I test every drop of water that I feed them.
