lol i have an old tote that i simply sandwiched two couplings with a pipe and a ball valve through a hole with RTV and it has held with no leaks.
I agree why not put some RTV silicone on the rubber gasket if you arent taking the fitting apart from the tote for some reason
I wonder if anyone uses plumbers silicone to lubricate the gasket before installation. This would prevent the gasket from slipping the wrong way and making a bad seal.
Personally I just spit a little on a rubber gasket before I install and you can always tighten it more so ,I don't ever crank a fitting until you water test it.
Over tightening can crack fittings and damage gaskets
